A Complete Travel Guide to Jaigarh Fort

Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, is the capital of Rajasthan. Each and every year thousands of domestic and international tourist visit this legendry land to enjoy its grand palaces, amazing forts, unique Jewelry and delicious traditional cuisines.

History

Located at a height of 500 feet above the sea level on Aravalli range, Jaigarh Fort was built by Sawan Jai Singh II in 1726 AD. This sandstone, also known as the Victory Fort, is spread over an area of 3 km. Based on the structure of Amer fort, this fort was used as a storehouse of weapons and was connected with the same by a subterranean passage.

Places to Visit in Jaigarh Fort

Charbagh Garden

There is a beautiful garden build in Persian style. Divided into 4 parts, this garden is decorated with many plants. Placed outside the Royal Apartment this garden has a series of panted stones of different genre. Tourist can spend some quality time over here.

Jaivan

During the region of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, Jaigarh gun foundry manufactured the world’s largest cannon on wheels, named as Jaivan. 50 ton weighted, Jaivan requires 100 kg of gunpowder for every shot.

Diya Burj

The highest point of Jaigarh Fort is Diya Burj. Jaipur’s Flag is hosted from this seven storied tower. Till today on the occasion of Maharaja’s Birthday authorities lit an oil lamp here.

Laxmi Vilas

The most beautiful building of Jaigarh Fort, Laxmi Vilas was renovated multiple times and the final renovation was done by the popular architect Vidhyadhar Bhatt under the ruler Sawai Jai Singh II. The hall of this palace is huge and supported by 12 marble pillars. A puppet theater is also there which is still active.

Museum

There is a well-stocked museum inside the fort which includes photographs of the rulers of Jaipur, old paintings, stamps and many other royal artefacts. Tourist can also view the gold and silver jewelries of the royal families here.

Temples

There are two vintage temples with in the fort. Ram Hari Har Temple for lord Rama built in the 10th century and Kal Bhairav Temple of 12th century.

Tourist can also explores Lalit Mandir, Vilas Mandir, Aram Mandir, Vijay Garh armory and the Water Reservoir.

  • Due to its location and surroundings, the fort provides some amazing views. So don’t forget to carry your camera.
  • A bottle of water will help you to stay hydrated and enjoy the grand fort.
  • It will take approximately 3 hours to complete the fort.
  • Entry fees for Indian is 35 and for foreigner 85.
  • The fort remains open from morning 10:00 am to evening 5:00 pm.
  • The fort is closed on public and government holidays.
  • Tourist can also visit the nearby Amer Fort and Nahargarh Fort.

This place is very well contacted with all the major cities of Rajasthan. From Jaipur buses of Rajasthan Road Corporation are available which are very well furnished and provides a comfortable journey to the fort.
