A Complete Guide – Lalgarh Palace, Bikaner

Apart from the flying kites of Akshay Tritiya and the tasty Bikaneri bhujia, Bikaner is also popular for its imperial forts, amazing havelis and folk music. This fourth largest city of Rajasthan was established by the Rathore prince, Rao Bika in 1486.

Situated in the north region of Rajasthan, Bikaner provides world’s best riding camels. History

Maharaja Ganga Singh built this indo-Saracenic structure in 1902 and named it after his father Maharaja Lal Singh. This memorial was designed by the British architecture Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob who blended Rajputana, Islamic and European architecture for the creation of this master piece.

Later in the year 1972, the 23rd ruler of Bikaner, Maharaja Dr. Karni Singhji created The Maharaja Ganga Singhji Trust for the preservation of Lalgarh Palace. In 1974, two of the wings of this palace had been converted into a heritage hotel and the trust runs it.

Architecture

The three storied red sand stone structure consists of drawing rooms, smoking rooms, guest suites, several grand halls, cupolas, pavilions and a dining room with the capacity of 400 diners. Intricate Lattice work, filigree and decorated pillars are the most attracted features of this palace.

  • The palace remains open for visitors from 10 am to 5 pm every day except Sunday.
  • Entry fees are Rs 10 for Indians and Rs 20 for Foreigners.

Lalgarh Palace is only two kilometers away from the Lalgarh Junction railway station. Local tourist bus, auto and taxis are easily available from there. The nearest airport to Bikaner is Jodhpur International Airport.
