3 Tips That’ll Help You Develop Your Personal Style

Fashion is always rotating and what was frowned upon yesterday could be tomorrow’s big Fashion hit. Equally, you might find that what looks great today will be laughed at in years to come (hello double denim) and then make a surprise comeback when no-one was expecting it (hello, again, double denim!).

This constantly changing industry has been built to continually subvert and challenge expectations but sometimes we just want something that will look great without having to worry. This is where Personal Style comes in. When you think about the people at the very top of the fashion industry, they are rarely tripping over themselves to get the latest thing. Anna Wintour has had the same Personal style since the 80s!

1. Finding the Perfect Fit

Possibly the most frustrating fashion faux pas is wearing something that doesn’t quite fit. This doesn’t mean that you can’t go for something over-sized or that you should stay away from crop tops. It just means that you need to make sure that you aren’t hefting your jeans up every 5 minutes and you don’t have little rolls of fat folding over your seams (we all have them!)

It doesn’t matter whether your personal style takes heavy influence from Japanese culture like Tokyo Dreams or if you go for boho chic, a good fit is essential. Everything you wear should feel comfortable. Key areas to measure are your shoulders, bust, waist and legs and no matter what the design, it should fit at these points.

2. Choosing Timeless Classics

If you want to be stylish without too much effort, timeless pieces should definitely make up the majority of your wardrobe. The beauty of timeless fashion is that it will always look as though you just threw on an outfit and happened to look amazing. But, even better, it means that you can focus on what looks amazing on your body and not just on the hanger.

When you are choosing a timeless classic, you should always think about the silhouette you are aiming for. We can’t all be straight up and down figures like models so embrace your curves and wear pieces that bring out your best features.

3. Be Bold

As you learn to take pride in your appearance and dress in what works for you, you will undoubtedly gain confidence in your fashion choices. And this is what you need to complete your stylish outfit: something bold.

Being bold in fashion might sound scary but if you start small, you will find that gradually you get to be more comfortable about expressing your taste – however wacky it might seem to start with! Adding a bold accessory to a plain outfit is a fun way to make your style pop and the more you enjoy playing with your clothes, the bolder you are likely to be.

Personal style is just that: personal. While these tips might help to bring you out of your shell with fashion, you still need to learn to work it. You’ve got it. Show it.
