The Top 2 Reasons You Need SPF Even If You Have Dark Skin

This blog post is sponsored by Olay.

Summer is hands down my favorite time of year. I’ll take hot, humid days over cold, blustery ones any day of the week! Since I’m now spending more time outside, I’ve recently started using the new Olay Regenerist Whip Moisturizer with SPF 25. You know I’ve been a fan of the Olay Whip Moisturizers for awhile, but this new one that includes SPF gives me everything I need for my Skin daily.

As ridiculous as this sounds, as a child I assumed that since I was dark-skinned, I didn’t need SPF. I figured it was only something needed for my fair-skinned friends, so they wouldn’t get sunburn. Once I hit my late teens, I realized just how wrong I was. If you’re not sure why you need to use sunscreen since you have darker skin, let me break it down for you in two reasons:

1. You need SPF to Keep Your Skin Looking Young.

Now we’ve all heard that “black don’t crack’, but trust me, it will if you’ve been spending years out in the sun without SPF. If you have dark skin and don’t protect your face with SPF, over time you can develop dark patches, fine lines and unevenness in skin tone. What’s great about Olay’s Regenerist Whip with SPF is that it improves elasticity and firmness while you soak up the sun.

2. The Sun’s UV Rays Will Damage Your Skin.

Although African-Americans typically don’t “burn” when out in the sun, we still aren’t protected from the sun’s powerful UV Rays. These rays can cause certain types of skin cancer even in someone with my complexion. Remember, the best defense is a great offense. Protect your skin now, so you can maintain healthy skin in the future.

If you’re still hesitant about using Olay’s Regenerist Whip Moisturizer with SPF 25, let me tell you what I love most about it. While other face moisturizers leave my skin feeling balmy and like my face is covered in a layer of sweat the moment I step outside my house, Olay absorbs in my skin quickly, leaving it hydrated without that greasy, moist feeling. It actually acts like a primer and keeps my makeup set the rest of the day. On days I’m heading to the pool, I apply it before going outside. Since it’s not waterproof, after a day of swimming I re-apply as soon as I’m out of the shower. What’s not to love?

Step up your game this summer and try this new product from Olay! Trust me, your skin will thank you! To grab yours today, click here.
