Krakow is a beautiful city to visit, and there are several great day trips you can easily take from the city.  Many tourists visit the fantastic Wieliczka salt mines, and the poignant Auschwitz concentration camp.

Another, lesser known, day trip from Krakow is to the beautiful Ojcow National Park.

The Ojcow National Park is only about 25 km from Krakow centre, and popular with locals but less well known to tourists.  The lovely rock formation known as the ‘Cracovian Gate’ in the photo above is a popular highlight, and there are many constructed paths through beautiful peaceful woodland.

There are many limestone features in the park, including numerous caves and the impressive Hercules Bludgeon rock.

We visited the Ojcow National Park on a tour booked through Viator (follow the link for further details).  We were picked up at our hotel, driven to the park and taken on a leisurely guided walk to see some of the park’s beautiful natural features.  The tour lasted approximately 5 hours, and was suitable for anyone with reasonable fitness.

In addition to the park’s natural features, the tour also included a visit to the striking wooden Chapel on the Water, and the impressive Pieskowa Skala Castle.  The castle is a great example of Polish Renaissance architecture, and is fascinating to explore.

Our guides were enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and we felt the tour was great value.

The Ojcow National Park is a great place to escape the noise and bustle of the city for a few hours.   If you enjoy walking in peaceful woodland and dramatic limestone landscapes, and enjoy exploring historic buildings, we highly recommend this tour.
