Why You Should Visit Udaipur Atleast Once In Your Life

Being christened as the “Venice of East” or the “City of Lakes” is no small deal and Udaipur stands rightly on its name. As the home of the most beautiful palaces of India and lakes, dripping in culture and history Udaipur is one of the best places to go to for the mind, soul and body.

Lake Jaisamands

Lake Jaisanmand (Also Debhar Lake) which is the second largest lake in India was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1685 by damming the Gomti. The Jaisanmand Lake surrounded by the Jaisanmand Wildlife Sanctuary and can be reached by the state highway to Banswara from Udaipur. You might get to see panthers, wild boars, deer and a variety of migratory birds, if you are lucky.

The lake is surrounded by the summer palaces of all Udaipur queens. Beautiful marble steps that lead into the water, making it one of the most picturesque spots. There are several resorts for the tourists who wish for a time of silence and relaxation.

Eklinji Temple

Ekilinji Temple, which is one of the most famous temples in Rajasthan, is just 22km from Udaipur on the N.H. – 8. In an interesting turn of events, it has been constantly rebuilt and modified by other rulers to remove the marks left as result of Mohammedan invasions after being originally built by Bappa Rawal.

Beautiful steps that lead to holy water that resides here. The main highlight of this temple would be 50 feet high statue of Eklinji. This statue symbolises the four forms of Lord Shiva, i.e., Surya, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Rudra (Lord Shiva himself).

The town comprises of 108 big and small temples which include temples dedicated to Ambika Mata, Kalki, and Lord Ganesh along with the Nathon ka Mandir which dates back to the 10th Century.

Hariyali Amavasya Festival

Hariyali Amavasya is celebrated with great fervour and zeal throughout India on the new moon (Amavasya) of the Shravana month of the Hindu Calendar. It has special significance as it marks and celebrates the onset of Monsoon.

Udaipur is particularly famous for the three day grand fair that takes place here. It the home of culture and it is riveting to watch and participate in filled with fun, frolic and food.

The City Palace was built by Maharaja Udai Singh II and his successors over the next 400 years. Made entirely from granite and marble there it exhibits beautiful mirror-work, marble-work, murals, wall painting, etc

Taj Lake Palace

Taj Lake Palace is said to be one of the most romantic hotels and despite you could say it just a hotel it can be reason enough to come to Udaipur. Built as the pleasure palace of Maharana Jagat Singh II, it is the epitome of royal splendour and beauty. It is vision in marble amidst water and so beautiful.

The welcome itself is so special with a rose shower that does its best to wow you as you are escorted under a sequinned umbrella to a spread of royal refreshing drinks.

Moreover, there is a very special something for the car lovers as the Maharaja’s Vinatge Car Collection has over twenty two classic vehicles including the 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom which was used in the bond Movie Octopussy.
