A lot of people heard about Split and this city is one of the most visited cities on the Croatian coast. But what makes from Split such a special city and why it's being visited by so many people every year? Bellow, we will explain you more about it and we'll also tell you what to visit and to experience, in order to make from your trip to Split, an epic adventure.

Split is the second largest city of Croatia, having more than 300,000 inhabitants. Split has a very rich culture, formed in 1700 years of continuous development and prosperity. The Roman Empire had a great influence over this place and many of their impressive vestiges can still be observed all around the city. Split is that typical Mediterranean city, which will embrace you with its sunny weather and impressive natural wonders.

Diocletian's Palace it's the greatest example of great architecture and a beautiful natural landscape, both put together. The Palace was built for the Roman Emperor, Diocletian. After he saw all the natural wonders around the Dalmatian Coast, he decided to build his retirement home here. Diocletian's Palace is more than just an imposing construction. It's actually, the heart of the city and the cultural center of Split. The whole city was built around it, but every single construction brings uniqueness into the overall architecture of the place.

Split is not just about history, and it has many other things to offer. While wandering the narrow streets, you will find many interesting buildings and modern attractions. You can always take a break from your trip and stop at a local restaurant. This way, you can serve some delicious meals, cooked on some local recipes, using only the finest ingredients. Or you could order a glass of wine.Croatian wines are amazing and according to some people, they are even better than the French wines. Just try them yourself and make your impression.

Religion was always an important part of Split's heritage. The Cathedral of St. Dominus is the best example of that. It was built as a mausoleum for the Roman emperor, Diocletian. After the emperor's death, the vestige was transformed into a Christian site and converted into a church. However, the Cathedral's interiors and exteriors shares many Roman motifs. The interior identifies with 2 rows of Corinthian columns and an imposing sculpture, which goes up to the ceiling. The contrast between the Roman and Christian design is simply perfect, and The Cathedral of St. Dominus is a great vestige, that you must visit.

If you want to relax and to admire the neighboring landscape, you have plenty of methods to do that. The best one, is to rent a boat and start sailing around. What could be better than admiring the Dalmatian Coast, with the wind gently blowing in your face and the sun, blessing you with its warmth. The feeling it's extraordinary and the sights are simply amazing. Also, you will feel free like a bird, with no one to bother you or tell you what to do.

The thing that makes from Split such an amazing place is that it wasn't built for touristic purposes. It was constructed for royalties and it still is a city worthy of kings and queens. If you want to have an amazing vacation, in a city that manages to provide in the same time a natural treasure and plenty architectural wonders, you should visit it as soon as you get the chance. It's only a flight anda cab drive away!
