Janine Hill shares insight and Beauty reviews on her blog, A Beautiful Whim

We caught up with beauty blogger, Janine Hill, founder of A Beautiful Whim to talk about her blog. Based in Phoenix, her blog focuses on Beauty Reviews, skin care, and makeup. She is passionate about finding (and sharing) products from emerging brands and boutiques. Janine is a trusted source of information and her readers appreciate her honest and candid feedback. Read on to learn more about her.

Tell us about yourself

I’m a 45 year old mother of 3 who is passionate about skin care and cosmetics. I live in Phoenix, AZ and love the Sonoran Desert. I grew up and attended college in Southern California and now I’m a Director working in Information Technology. I have a doberman and 3 cats. It’s seriously a full house!

What got you blogging?

My husband has tons of amazing hobbies and I really had nothing interesting to do in my spare time. Well, I mastered napping but that wasn’t going over well in my house. Since I purchase a lot of beauty products, I decided to start my blog to share my experiences and information about products I purchase. I have always loved writing and engaging with others.

What is your goal for your blog?

My goal is to continue to embrace beauty and inspire others, no matter what their age, to do the same. I continue to grow my blog and will sometimes do sponsored posts but I am a sincere and honest blogger. I want to be a trusted advisor to those looking to try products and services.

What target audience do you write for?

Mainly women ages 18-50 but I absolutely love having male readers. I have a few that follow my blog because they know me but my blog is generally geared toward products that are marketed for women. My audience tends to be people willing to invest in more costly beauty products and procedures. I try to cover topics that my readers request so I will occasionally step outside my comfort zone to cover a requested topic. For instance, I am working on “5 Great Drug Store Products Under $5” right now.

What do you find most interesting about your audience?

That I have male readers. A few have been following my blog since I began last year and I appreciate that they are doing what makes them happy. I love to support them and offer them tips. Truthfully though, I’m thankful for all of my followers. They are all unique individuals who bring different ideas and perspectives to the table. Some have even become a part of my life.

What suggestions do you have for other bloggers that want to be successful?

Publish frequently and consistently- but post interesting content that seeks to educate your readers about products or services. Do the homework so your readers don’t have to. Engage with other bloggers and build relationships. Most importantly, be true to yourself and your audience. Don’t change your voice when you blog, be yourself. No one wants to engage with a mechanical person. People will come to your blog because you have knowledge and you are a real person with real things to say. There are a lot of tips out there to drive traffic to your blog, and there’s value in that information, but the bottom line is building a successful blog takes time and a commitment.
