3 Points of Ladder Contact for Safety

Make sure you take the proper precautions when using a Ladder and use the 3 points of ladder contact for safety. Ladder safety is vital when working with a ladder for any reason whatsoever. A ladder can be a great tool, but it can also be dangerous if it’s not used properly.

What are the 3 Points of Ladder Contact?

This is a pretty simple rule to follow. You need to have three points of contact whenever you’re climbing the ladder. This means you need two feet and one hand or two hands and one foot on the ladder at all times.

Most ladder injuries happen when the three points of contact are not being maintained. When you have to carry any materials down the ladder, work with a partner to do it safety. Make sure they keep all three points of contact and you can both remain safe.

When working on your own, you need to maintain all three points of contact, as well. Take multiple trips for materials and tools or use a bucket with a rope to lower the materials and tools before climbing down.

Why Do the 3 Points of Ladder Contact Work?

The reason this rule works is the anchor points. When you have three, it’s safer than two and two can be very dangerous. If you only have two feet on the ladder, you could easily fall backwards. If you have one hand and one foot on the ladder, you could tip sideways.

3 points of ladder contact will help keep you safe, while anything less puts you in danger. There’s a higher chance of injury as soon as you stop having the 3 points of ladder contact when using any ladder.

Make sure you’re following this rule and you have the right ladder for the job you’re trying to complete. Safety should always come first.
