Reports Claim Coca-Cola are Developing a Cannabis Coke Drink

Following the introduction of cannabis beer last month, a new cannabis-infused drink may soon hit the market: cannabis coke.

According to reports, Coca-Cola Co. is currently in serious talks with Canada-based cannabis drinks maker Aurora Cannabis. Apparently, the international soft drinks brand is showing interest in entering the cannabinoid beverage industry. That said, the possibility of cannabis coke hitting the market is not a farfetched concept.

BNN Bloomberg‘s sources said that Coca-Cola, currently the world’s largest beverage company, wants to develop its own drinks that are infused with cannabis or CBD, a non-psychoactive chemical extracted from marijuana plants.

However, Aurora Cannabis has denied any agreement with Coca-Cola but confirmed that they are engaged in “discussions.”

“The Company does confirm that it engages in exploratory discussions with industry participants from time to time. At this time the Company confirms there is no agreement, understanding or arrangement with respect to any partnership with a beverage company,” Aurora said in a press release.

While alleged “talks” are still developing, the mere speculations of a possible partnership between Coca-Cola and Aurora have already caused the stocks of the latter to surge on Tuesday. Aurora’s shares in Canada trading reportedly rose by as much as 17 percent yesterday.

Following the report on a possible partnership, Coke has released the following statement:

“We have no interest in marijuana or cannabis. Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world. The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”

As consumption of soda continues to decline in recent years, Coke has constantly been diversifying its brand and product line. It has expanded its product line to include juices, teas, mineral water, and even coffee as the company announced last month that it would acquire Costa Coffee.

How do you feel about cannabis-infused drinks? Do you support the production of such beverages? Why or why not?
