Honor View 20 First Impressions- Striking Design and Powerful Performance

Honor View 20 is all set to be launched in India on January 29th while the global debut will happen on Jan 22nd. The device was first announced in China back in December 2018 and is the world’s first 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor. It is also the first device from Honor with a hole in the display for selfie Camera. The device also packs the world’s first 7nm chipset, the Kirin 980. We have been using the device for a few days and here are the Honor View 20 first impressions.

Here is the unboxing and hands-on video.

Similar to other Honor flagships, the View 20 also has one of the best and striking designs for a flagship phone. The phone is made of metal and glass and feels really nice in hands. The back panel has a unique V pattern which gets reflected when light falls on it and this represents the V series or the View series for the global market. The rear panel has the 48MP camera along with secondary camera and flash. The main camera is outside the camera module along with AI branding and fingerprint scanner below it. You can also see the new Honor logo at the bottom. The back panel being glass attracts a lot of fingerprints while using.

On to the front panel, the most striking feature is the selfie camera which is a hole in the display. The 25MP selfie camera sits on the top left corner killing one of the popular features of 2018, the Notch. The bottom panel has USB type C port, single speaker and microphone while the top panel has IR blaster and 3.5mm audio jack.

The 6.41 inch IPS LCD full HD display with a 1080×2310 looks great and the colors are pretty accurate and touch response feels very good. The display bezels are also very minimal. There is an option to hide the camera hole from the display in the form of disable notch. While the front camera cut out works for most of the app, you can disable it from the settings.

The camera is one of the highlights of the device. It comes with a primary 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with F/1.8 aperture and also a secondary 3D TOF which used for depth sensing and also for 3D gaming. The front selfie camera is a 25MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture.

We will be doing the detailed camera review, so stay tuned for it. Here are few samples taken with the device.

Honor View 20 is powered by homegrown Kirin 980, which is also the world’s first 7nm chipset. It is coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage along with the new Magic UI. While the Magic UI isn’t considerably different from the EMUI, this runs on top of Android Pie 9.0. The UI is smooth and the response is really good. We will be testing the device more in the coming days, so stay tuned.

The phone also packs a 4000mAh battery with 40W Super Charge which was available in Huawei Mate 20 Pro as well.

In our limited time of testing, we found the Honor View 20 an impressive offering. We will be doing detailed camera review and also the comparison with other smartphones in the segment. Now, everything boils down to the pricing, which we will get to know on January 29th. Stay tuned for our detailed review once the device is launched.
