Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the world’s first Tango smartphone, finally makes its way to India for ₹29,990

Get ready to get immersed in a virtual 3D experience right on your smartphone. The world’s first Tango-enabled smartphone, Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, has finally been launched in India today. The device is currently available for purchase at ₹29,990, exclusively via Flipkart.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro was first shown off by the Chinese hardware maker at the Lenovo Tech World 2016 Keynote Event back in June. It was then scheduled to roll out around September but the launch was delayed regularly due to product issues. The smartphone was officially launched in the U.S towards the end of 2016. Now, Lenovo has extended the reach of this smartphone to India but with some changes to the internal specifications.

The smartphone, though beautifully crafted out of metal, is definitely on the higher side in terms of its size. The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro hosts a massive 6.4-inch (2560 x 1440) Quad-HD IPS display with a pixel density of 454 ppi. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 coupled with 4 GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. It comes with 64 GB of onboard storage, expandable up to 128 GB. The phone weighs 259 grams and measures 179.8×88.5×10.7mm.

As for the optics department, Phab 2 Pro adds to the mix not one camera but multiple feature-packed lenses. It includes a 16-megapixel rear RGB shooter, a motion-tracking camera, and a special depth-sensing infrared unit as a part of Tango project. The device also includes an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.4um pixel size to fulfill your selfie needs.

For those unaware of Google’s Tango project, it has been launched with the aim of integrating computer vision into hand-held devices. The company packs these devices with an array of depth-sensing cameras and sensors to capture the surroundings. The software capabilities of these phones will then be utilized to stitch the data and produce accurate 3D projections of the same. Thus, the said device from Lenovo is a commercial product using this tech.

Commenting on the launch of the device in India, Bhaskar Choudhuri, Director of Marketing at Lenovo India said,

With the introduction of Phab 2 Pro, a first-of-its-kind device in its category, Lenovo aims to revolutionise the way smartphones are used. Our approach to innovation is to ensure we’re constantly evolving and understanding how technology can be infused in everyday lives of consumers. We believe that the Phab 2 Pro is truly a game-changer that will seamlessly integrate into varied lifestyles.

In addition, the phone also packs in a 4,050 mAh battery with Fast charging technology. There is also a fingerprint reader on the back of the device, below the array of cameras and sports Dolby Atmos audio technology. It includes Dolby Audio 5.1 Capture technology for recording 3D sound as well. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and includes all major connectivity options including DualSIM support.

Lenovo has released only the Champagne Gold variant of the Phab 2 Pro in India, exclusively on homegrown e-commerce platform Flipkart.
