Huge Facebook update releases livestream from web, live contributor role, profile insights and more

Facebook’s new live videos are a great way for Publishers to engage audience. The feature is quickly gaining traction as more and more creators use it to get across to audience. Facebook is now rolling out a string of features to improve the functionality of Facebook Live. The features include livestreaming from web, live contributor role, permalinks and more. Lets take a look.

The company wants publishers able to use Live from all over the place and towards the same, has released the feature for the web as well. So basically, publishers are no longer constrained to their mobile devices but can start live-broadcasting from their web browsers as well.

Announcing the update though a post, Facebook said,

We are rolling out the ability to go live on Facebook via a web browser to Pages. A variety of broadcast types — like daily vlogs — benefit from an easy, stable camera setup, and bringing Live to laptops and desktops will make this style of broadcasting easier.

The company has also added a new role called “Live Contributor” to pages. As the name implies, Live Contributors can go live and post content on the behalf of the page they are associated with without having to be an administrator.

This is pretty useful as it allows a page to have multiple contributors without any interference in the running of the page by having too many administrators.

Starting later today, we’re rolling out a “Live Contributor” role in Pages, allowing admins to designate specific individuals to go live on behalf of a Page. This gives contributors the flexibility to stream great live content from a mobile device on behalf of a Page whenever it happens, while allowing the Page admin to maintain security and control over their Page

Another interesting feature that has been introduced is video insights for profiles. So basically, profiles with 5,000 or more followers will find video metrics for public videos as well as individual live videos, available for analysis. The data offered through these insights will include total minutes viewed, total number of views, and total engagement (reactions, comments and shares).

Meanwhile, insights for all the videos posted by a user on his or her profile over 7-, 30-, and 60-day periods will also be available.

These lightweight insights will provide a way for public figures, such as celebrities, journalists, and politicians, to better understand how their video content performs on Facebook.

The feature will be coming out in the next few weeks and will also be rolled out to the mentions app later.

Recognizing that live videos get more comment than almost any other kind of post on Facebook, the company has introduced comment pinning. So if the broadcaster particularly likes a comment (say for its witticism), they can pin it to right under their live-feed where it will be highly visible to everyone else.

Realizing that audience sometime need a faster way to get to a particular page’s live broadcast — and a way to direct others to the same — Facebook has introduced video permalinks for pages.

Accessible via “facebook.com/pagename/videos,” viewers who visit the link will be presented with live video if a broadcast is currently underway, as well as a library of the Page’s previous live and non-live video content in a simple, easy-to-navigate format.

Finally, the company has expanded upon the cross posting features it offers. Publishers can now post the video of the same live broadcast to multiple pages at once, once it concludes.

Well, Facebook has always stressed that Live is an important feature for it. From encouraging publishers to start using it to keeping others (Prisma uh-oh) from getting too familiar with the API, live is an important feature for the social networking platform. The recent update only serves to strengthen the conviction.
