Xiaomi’s Mi TV 4 sets a new standard for thin televisions

This year’s CES seems to be all about Thin Televisions and after Samsung, Xiaomi has also come up with a TV that is really thin. The Mi TV 4 is only 4.9 mm wide at its thinnest point and to put things in perspective, is 30 percent thiner than an iPhone.

If you follow technology, you would have noticed a very interesting trend. An announcement for a new product by a company is usually followed products that offer somewhat similar USPs, by other companies as well. Its more of the fact that these companies arrive at the same technology at around the same time rather than any copying. Something of the sort appears to have taken place at the CES as well.

Samsung regaled us a couple of days ago with its upcoming, super thin, QLED Televisions. And now Xiaomi has jumped the thin television bandwagon as well. At the CES, Xiaomi showed off the Mi TV 4, which is to come in three different variants of 45, 55 and 65 inches. The Television looks even thinner, thanks to the brushed metal back cover and the transparent stand it comes with.

Imagine a suspended display glass – no frames, no stand. We reengineered the all-new Mi TV 4 and made it so slim, it feels almost like you’re watching a piece of glass display in the air.

Xiaomi is deploying an AI-driven system in combination with its own PatchWall UI to provide the system with its brains, and the company believes that the combination will be able to offer recommendations to users like never before.

Our deep learning AI system understands your preferences and intelligently classifies content, so everyone gets to enjoy highly personalized recommendations. Whether you like action, thriller, comedy, or animated movies, Patchwall curates the best possible content for everyone in the family.

Meanwhile, the thinness factor or even the AI powered UI aren’t all that the Mi TV 4 has to show for itself.

As opposed to the usual TVs, that pack the display and the motherboard together, Xiaomi lets its users upgrade just the motherboard as well. This introduces improvements without having to bear the expense of having to change the display as well. Meanwhile, in a interesting turn of events, the Mi TV 4 comes with a separate sound bar that also houses all of the TV’s ports.

The TV is expected to start shipping later this year and will likely cost less than $2,000. Considering the features its been packed with along with its design, that is pretty cheap.
