HP Pavilion 550-126 Specs

In this desktop, you’re going to find a decent heavyweight processor – the Intel Core i5-6400, which is more than enough for many of you. It features a nice quad-core setup with a clock speed of 2.7GHz. When you turn turbo on, the clock speed will jump up to 3.3Ghz.

It has a maximum thermal design power of 65W. When it comes to the CPU Mark test, the chip does a pretty good job. The CPU Mark score is 6600. At this moment we cannot think of any programs that would not be able to run on this desktop.

In addition to the nice CPU performance, there’s a large amount of memory here. In this desktop, you’re looking at 8GB and 4GB RAM sticks that are installed on the mainboard. Adding those together, you have a total of 12GB RAM.

On the board, there’re two memory slots, so if you feel you need more RAM, you can easily upgrade the desktop to 16GB. However, some say jumping from 12GB to 16GB isn’t worth it because you wouldn’t be able to notice that big of a difference as 12GB is more than enough.

If you want to hook a network cable up to this desktop, you can do so through the Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45). However, if you prefer keeping the connection wireless, with the WiFi 802.11 bgn with Bluetooth 4.0, this shouldn’t be a problem.

The good thing about having both would be the fact that you can choose between a wired and wireless Internet connection. That’s always a great choice to have.

Storage?

Like some of the popular desktops in this day and age, HP Pavilion 550-126 does not have a solid-state drive. Instead, it has a spinning mechanical hard drive. As far as storage goes, it has the regular 1TB 7200RPM, which should be more than enough for storage. With a storage of this size, you’ll be able to store all of your files such as movies, music, documents, pictures, and whatever else you may have that is important to you.

Mind you, this desktop does not support M.2 SSDs, but you do have free SATA connectors as well as 3.5” slots in order to hold a secondary SATA drive. If you wanted a super fast SSD, then this comes off as a blow.

Looking at the ports available on this HP Pavilion 550-126 desktop, you have a total of six USB ports. Four of those ports are USB 3.0, and there are two HDMI ports available. This means plugging in two monitors at the same time is supported.

Built-in to this desktop, you will find a media card reader for SD and MS formats. There’s also a DVD burner, which is a bonus. Quite a few people use DVDs these days. But if you are one of them, you’ll find it useful.

What Else?

The keyboard comes with a keyboard and a mouse that are both wired. The monitor, however, is sold separately. Pick a touchscreen display as we are dealing with Windows 10 as the operating system.

As far as gaming performance goes – it’s not as excellent as a hardcore gamer would want it to be. It doesn’t feature dedicated graphics, which is bad news for a gamer.

So, by default, the integrated Intel HD 530 chip handles the graphics department. If you were to run GTA 5, even on low settings, you would come out with 30FPS, which is not that great. However, there are games that are easy on the system, like Minecraft, that will run great.

There’s an 180W power supply, which is a bit on the weak side. If you plan on adding a graphics card in this desktop, then you have to upgrade the PSU in the desktop.

HP Pavilion 550-126 Review: Verdict

The HP Pavilion 550-126 desktop isn’t a bad computer for the average home user – it will run software smoothly. The processor and RAM are great, so programs, including MS Office, YouTube, and photo editing will do just fine. Due to the installed WiFi card, you’ll be able to have a seamless, wireless Internet connection. If you’re an average home user who needs a desktop to do work on, this HP is a pretty good option.
