What Sort Of Gaming Is Right For You?

Image

With over 50% of households owning one or more video game consoles is it hard to imagine that most people love a game or two? Gaming doesn’t have to mean a teenage boy sitting in front of a game console for hours in his room shooting random things, which is, unfortunately, the stereotype image. Gaming can be social, fun, active and for all ages. There have even been studies showing that gaming can be good for development. But with so many types of gaming out there, which one is right for you?

Consoles

Let’s start with the one that springs to everyone’s minds first when thinking about gaming; consoles. Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo are the big contenders here, but Nintendo does tend to lean more towards younger and family users. The new Wii Switch is a great little console if you’re planning on gaming with multiple people often, and want to have a lot of bright and cheery fun – the classics obviously include Mario Cart and Just dance. Xbox has gone for an all-in-one entertainment unit, trying to integrate Netflix and catch up,and is widely considered the better console for online gaming – plus the new Xbox One X is the most powerful console you can get – at the moment. PlayStation, on the other hand, has much more exclusive content. There are many games that come out for both brands, and some that come out exclusive to one – and it does seem like the scales tip in PlayStation’s favour on this one.

PC

Computer gaming has been around for as long as the PC has been here. And even now people are loving it. Some of the best PC games are great because of the reach of the internet. MMO games like World of Warcraft have huge worlds that are constantly being improved and updated and you can meet and interact with players all over the world. You can play online with a console, but a lot of PC games can be played on your existing computer, and are exclusive to the PC.

Gambling

A much more adult way to game – people find it exciting due to the higher stakes at risk, but also because you can play by yourself. There’s no need for complicated cut scenes, no quest or side adventures, just a quick game or two here and there. The top 5 slots games from microgaming prove just that; you don’t need hours to play, just a quick five minutes, and you don’t even need to spend much to play.

Phones

Everyone has one, and we all know how addictive Phone apps can be – look at the craze surrounding flappy bird. Phone games are perfect for the gamer on the go. You can choose from a quick fix like Candy Crush or a long-term investment like the new phone version of Animal Crossing. CNET has a countdown of the best phone games this year and most of them are worth checking out.
