President Trump is a functional third party President

I agree with Mark Rosneck that President Trump is a functional third party President: We’re witnessing the result of a third party President | Sparta Report

In President Trump, we’re witnessing what happens when a third party candidate becomes president. Sure, he ran as a Republican and his politics are generally more Republican-esqe than Democrat-esqe. But he isn’t one of “them” and has never been one of “them.”

The first hint was the GOP Convention. A number of prominent Republicans (GOPe if you like) had better things to do that week. It certainly wasn’t a GOP Convention. It was more like the GOPe begrudgingly let Donald Trump have a rally because they had called off the convention and were happy to have someone take over the hall. After all, the GOPe didn’t win so what was the point?

The next hint was when rank and file Republicans wouldn’t even acknowledge he was the party’s candidate. I have never been so disappointed in a group of people than those Republicans.

Remember how “they” said Donald Trump didn’t have a ground game. “They” were probably right but it’s because the entire Republican party had gone underground. Fortunately, he had a better airplane game that focused on Electoral College votes and remarkably won proving that the GOPe was clueless about how to win a national election. And it turns out, they don’t care all that much.

The entire #NEVERTRUMP summed up the stupidity and the arrogance of the GOPe.

Remember, Mitch McConnell kept the Senate “in session” during the summer recess for the sole purpose of blocking the Trump Administration from finishing staffing the executive branch and completing the judicial appointments using the “recess Appointment” power.

The Opposition party does that.

There is no downside to dealing with Chuck and Nancy because Paul and Mitch simply do Chuck’s and Nancy’s bidding, The latest example of which went like this: the GOP leadership’s loyalty to Democrat leadership became quite obvious when Paul refused to denounce the antifa terrorists … that he previously had supported … until Nancy’s denounced them first, after which Paul quickly followed Nancy’s lead.

Plus … Paul, Mitch, Chuck and Nancy’s all poll at about the same dismal rates. No downside there either.

Chuck and Nancy kissed the ring to get what they need for the 2018 campaign season. They both bent the knee to President Trump. Nancy even begged President Trump to tweet something for her, and he did. Now Nancy is actually bragging about it.

Chuck is working with the President on eliminating the Democrat sponsored Gephardt rule altogether. The Debt ceiling was a Democrat Legislative effort, and now Chuck is going to cooperate with Trump to end it.

The wall is yet another bipartisan issue about which Trump will find a way to get a deal done.

Now I’m not saying that President Trump will only work with Democrats from here on out, only that now that the “reaching across the isle” ice has been broken, the President has infinitely more leverage to pass his agenda in the legislature.

Trump can do exactly what Bill Clinton did when the Democrat leadership played at Clinton Administration opposition. Get a few votes from across the isle, and the GOP leadership has much less leverage, and it’s opposition and slow walking will be seen to have been achieved at too high a price.
