Sour Candy: A personal little review of Skullcandy

It had to happen one day and so it did. "My precious"(Refer LOTR) Creative EP 630 earphone gave away, one bud at a time. The two year love affair was deep while it lasted. I would take it to college with me and would go to bed listening to it. Finding every opportunity to pop it into my ears even if it was for a few minutes. Ah, I still remember her as if it was just yesterday.

But the time had come for me to move on and find another partner to romance me with music. I missed my ex so much that I wanted her again but alas, the store did not have her in stock. I had to find a replacement. I spotted a striking Skullcandy 2XL Spoke style earphone giving me a flirty look. I took the bait, I had to have her. “Good catch”, I thought at the Rs. 599 price tag. Besides, I had heard the hype of Skullcandy earphones. I was a happy lad who had found love again. I defended her against anyone who called her uncomfortable in the ear or lesser than other earphones.

My Skullcandy was not as good at bass as my Previous Creative Earphones but hell; they were good none the less. We had a great time together. I took her to my office every day, found every opportunity to listen to her sweet melody whenever time permitted. I was so proud of her, I even forgot about my ex Creative EP 630.

Sadly, my dream was not meant to last. Within two months of purchase, she started giving away. The day the right ear bud stopped, my heart skipped a beat. No, I thought. It can't be. Not so soon, not so soon please. I tried to see if I could bring her back to life again but it was not meant to be. Within five more days, the other ear bud gave away as well. I was sad, but I knew I couldn’t do anything. I checked the warranty and it showed three months. “Really bad product”, I thought, that too from Skullcandy. Never will I recommend her to anyone, for she betrays too soon.

Sadly, I will just have to get another Skullcandy in the warranty replacement and wait for the inevitable after two months. My sweet Creative EP 630, how I miss you my faithful dear.

A little technical review:

Skullcandy 2XL Spoke Style Earphones are really good but the build quality is really substandard and disappointing. You will be better off investing a little more and getting an earphone of a different brand. As for me, Creative EP 630 left a really great and lasting impression, both in terms of sound(better than Skullcandy 2XL Spoke style) as well as the build quality (according to reviews, Creative EP 630 lasts for a year but mine lasted for two). Don't go for the hype people, go for the quality.

P.S: I treat all my tech possessions with great care and hence I handled my Skullcandy as good as my previous Creative earphones so there is no question of poor handling.

Update:

I got my Skullcandy 2XL Spoke style earphones replaced under the warranty and this time they lasted 8 months with good use. Oh well, better than two months. Can't expect more from it. It's back to Creative EP 630 for me now. I like my tech products to last at least a year.
