three quarters of users do not know that Facebook stores interests

Research: About 74 percent of Facebook users in an American study did not know that the social network builds up a profile in which it gambles the interests and political preferences of users. These interests are, according to many users, correct, according to others.

Facebook gambles on the basis of what users like and do on the social network and what interests are shown on the Advertising Preferences page . 74 percent of the respondents in a study by Pew Research knew that this page existed, 12 percent said they knew about it. Another 11 per cent did not mention anything on that page.

Of all the people who stood there, 59 percent say that the interests are at least a bit accurate. Approximately 27 percent say after seeing the page that Facebook is completely wrong. The social network uses the interests to show targeted advertisements. In political affiliations, something that is simpler in the United States because of the existence of two large parties, Facebook accounts for 73 percent of the cases.

The results are based on research that took place around September last year among 963 respondents. Pew says the margin of error for the results is around 3.4 percentage points. Facebook did not respond to the results from the survey.
