Starlink: Battle for Atlas Review

Nice ingredients, but not a whole

In summary
Starlink: Battle for Atlas contains many elements that are very nice apart, but do not form a good whole together. The planets are perfectly organized, although they are all the same. This also applies to the opponents and the quests. There is a lot to do in space, but the same attack from a group of pirates always becomes somewhat monotonous, however good the control of your ship and the options of the various weapons are. Starlink is therefore an excellent basis for the series that Ubisoft most likely has in mind. In its current form, the game is fun, but not nearly perfect, and unfortunately quite expensive.

Pros
Upgrading your equipment

Colorful appearance
Good game elements
Negatives
Different weapons make game expensive
Loose parts do not form a whole
Repetitive

Those who walked into a toy store in the past few days could have just received a déjà vu. In the game section there is suddenly a shelf full of plastic dolls, as if the heyday of Skylanders have returned. That is what Ubisoft hopes for, because the publisher is taking a step in a genre that seemed to be at its peak with Starlink: Battle for Atlas.

That will also have been the first thought when Ubisoft announced the game during the E3 of 2017: ‘Huh, plastic dolls, we were just away from that?’ The next thought was perhaps that such games are expensive because of all the plastic that you get at home. That also plays Starlink: Battle for Atlas parts. The basic version of the game costs 80 euros, and that is just the beginning. But let’s not immediately start talking about the price and first look at the game you can play with all that plastic.

Exotic planets
Starlink is known as an action adventure game, although we see more space rpg in it. It is a game where you play the pilot of the single spaceship with which you do everything: from carrying out interplanetary journeys to entering small buildings on exotic planets. You are almost inseparable from your small boat, which can be highly adapted to your wishes. The latter is certainly fun.
