Nintendo sues websites for distributing roms

Nintendo sued the websites Loveroms and Loveretro because the websites would host illegal games. The websites have a claim for damages of millions of dollars.

The lawsuit is filed with the federal court in Arizona, since, according to TorrentFreak, both websites are run by Jacob Mathias and his Arizona-based company Mathias Designs LLC. Nintendo appeals to its copyright in the lawsuit.

In the indictment, Nintendo writes that the Loverom and Loveretro websites are two of the most notorious online hubs for pirated video games and that they make an amazing number of Nintendo Games available without Nintendo’s permission. In addition, according to Nintendo, the websites host patented biosoftware and use logos and characters from Nintendo.

Nintendo requires both websites to be closed and a compensation of $ 150,000 per game and a compensation of $ 2 million per trademark used must be paid. According to TorrentFreak, all this can add up to 100 million dollars.

Loveroms has now indicated on Facebook that it has removed all Nintendo games from its website. Roms for other platforms, such as Sega and Sony, can still be found on the website . The Loveretro website only shows a message that it has been closed for the time being.

It is not the first time that Nintendo has taken action against illegal roms and emulators. For example, the company took action against the Super Mario 64 Online mod last year and took offline videos on YouTube with emulated games . In 2014 the company took a GameBoy emulator for iOS offline.
