Microsoft Corp. confirmed on Saturday that it has repaired vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system, revealed by leaks published yesterday by the electronic hackers group known as shadow intermediaries.

The “Shadow Brokers” group published yesterday files and documents that Security experts said revealed that the National Security Agency (NSA) US access to the system of communication between financial banks, known as “SWIFT”, allowing it to monitor financial flows between some banks in the Middle East and America Latin.

After the US software giant said it had not warned of loopholes by any US government agency, it had verified the vulnerabilities and made sure they existed and repaired on all current versions supported by Windows. Which means that the Windows XP and Windows Vista systems that the company has stopped supporting will remain vulnerable to exploitation.

Microsoft’s response came hours after security experts, including former US National Security Agency contractor and well-known author Edward Snowden, warned that the NSA did not warn Microsoft about the loopholes.

Microsoft said yesterday in a statement that it did not warn any part of the US government that such files have been found or stolen. “Unlike journalists, no individual or organization has contacted us with regard to materials from Shadow Brokers.”

The company said in a bulletin on the security blog that users of Windows 7 and the latest in a safe mode that they installed security updates launched by the company periodically, and for the older version, including the Windows XP and Windows Vista, they must upgrade to newer versions.
