Apple has recently released Iphone OS 4 Beta 4 SDK for developers to build various new apps for the new iPhone OS 4. This new iPhone OS is quite promising and features several new features over the last Beta 3 release. These new features will provide an advanced platform to app developers to develop custom apps using these features. Here is the list of 5 major features that were introduced by Apple in this latest beta release.
Springboard Utilities Folder
Apple has introduced a new folder in the springboard called “Utilities”. This Utilities folder contains apps like Clock, Calculator, Voice Memos and Compass. This folder will be useful to access many common task apps together in one place.
Landscape Orientation in Photos App
This is great. Photos app will now support landscape orientation on iPhone and iPod touch, unless you have orientation lock (also new to OS 4) turned on. This change might suggest that full landscape support like iPad throughout the springboard is coming soon to iPhone?
AT&T Internet Tethering
AT&T users can now enjoy Internet tethering natively from their home network. There is no need of third party apps installation as you can simply make a phone call to AT&T to enable tethering.
There is a new custom dictionary to add your most frequently used words. You can find it under Keyboard settings.
New Set of Wallpapers
Since iPhone 1.x days, Apple was providing the same set of wallpapers but now they have finally updated the stock wallpapers in iPhone OS 4. These new iPhone wallpapers are pretty attractive and looks good as home screen backgrounds.Since the beta version seems pretty promising, the final iPhone OS 4.0 release will be huge with several bug fixes and enhanced stability. Apple might unveil the next-generation iPhone at the annual WWDC 2010 conference on June 7 and iPhone OS 4.0 is expected to be released on the same day.
