Are Other Fuel Options Actually Possible Options?

One of the most controversial environmental topics today surrounds the question of whether or not there are other energy options other than using Gasoline.  Some of these other options include electricity, hydrogen, and ethanol Powered cars.  Now these other options do allow us to cut down on green house gas emissions in the long run but is it even possible to fully convert to one of these other energy sources.  Today, the United States has become so incredibly reliant on Gasoline Powered Vehicles that it may not even be possible to switch to an alternate energy source.  First off, all the gasoline powered vehicles would have to be traded in  for these alternative fueled cars or be fixed to run on another type of fuel.  This would cause a HUGE problem for car companies because of the lack of value of these old gasoline powered cars.  These cars would have to be disposed of in landfills causing our already overcrowded landfills to become even more crowded.  Landfills are already causing environmental problems along the lines of pollution and gas emissions.  Another problem with switching includes the transition from gas stations to stations that provide the new standard fuel.  The cost to convert every gas station will be incredibly high and the fuel itself will probably be expensive.  This causes a problem for many middle and lower class citizens who may be unable to afford either the new cars/parts or the fuel.  The gasoline powered vehicle is such a huge part of the American economy that switching to a new fuel source would not only be impossible but would also have an absolutely devastating effect on the people and economy.
