Followings are a brief history of invention of different electrical appliances/devices used in household applications.
Incandescent lamp
1850 - Edward Shepard invented an electrical incandescent arc lamp using a charcoal filament.
1879 -
Thomas Alva Edison invented a carbon filament that burned for forty hours. Edison placed his filament in an oxygenless bulb
1910 -
William David Coolidge (1873-1975) invented an improved method of making tungsten filaments.
Fluorescent Lamp
In 1857, the French physicist
Alexandre E. Becquerel who had investigated the phenomena of fluorescence and phosphorescence, theorized about the building of fluorescent tubes similar to those made today
CFL
The modern CFL was invented by Edward E. Hammer, an engineer with General Electric, in response to the 1973
Fan
In 1886, Schulyer Wheeler invented the electric fan
Geyser
In the 1870s, Englishmen, Maughan invented the first instant water heater. Little is known about Maughan's invention, however, his invention influenced the designs of Edwin Ruud.
Edwin Ruud, a Norwegian mechanical engineer was the inventor of the automatic storage water heater in 1889.
Air conditioner
W. Carrier (United States) invented electric air conditioning in the year 1911
Door Bell
The electric door bell was invented by Joseph Henry in 1831
Refrigerator
In 1805, an American inventor, Oliver Evans, designed the first refrigeration machine.
A. Goss invented the electric refrigerator in the year 1913
Microwave
The microwave oven was invented by Percy L. Spencer in 1946,
Washing machine
The Thor was the first electric-powered washing machine. Introduced in 1908 by the Hurley Machine Company of Chicago, Illinois, the Thor washing machine was invented Alva J. Fisher
Dish Washer
In 1886, Josephine Cochran invented the dishwasher in Shelbyville, Illinois
Vaccum Cleaner
June 8 - Ives McGaffey patents the vacuum cleaner, a "sweeping machine" in 1869.
Television
1907 Early Electronic Systems Campbell Swinton and Boris Rosing suggest using
cathode ray tubes to transmit images. Independent of each other, they both develop electronic scanning methods of reproducing images.
FM Radio
Edwin Howard Armstrong invented frequency-modulated or FM radio in 1933
DVD Player
DVD player was first invented back in 1996 in Japan
Home Security Systems
The first video home security system was patented on December 2, 1969 to Marie Brown. The system used television surveillance.
