In a recent Study by Vanderbilt University, it has been shown that filtering out the unnecessary information, just like humans forget things, may facilitate better performance for artificial intelligence.
The research involved a robot measuring WiFi signals and creating a map of its surroundings. The researchers tested different algorithms, including one that remembers everything, one that automatically disregards oldest information, and one that disreagrds random information. The most accurate results were obtained by the algorithm that filtered out the information in the same way the forgetfullness in humans work, that is, prioritize what is important and what is not important.
