This year Xiaomi will launch the successor, Mi A2 in India. In this article, we take a look at price, specifications, features, release date and rumors.

So what’s going to change?

MI 6X has been launched in China on 25th April 2018 and it will be launched as MI A2 in India. So here is everything you will get to see in Mi A2.

First big change is going to be on the display side, Mi A1 came with a 5.5 inch Full HD display. The display is sharp with good colour reproduction so there were no issues with the display. But now the regular 16:9 aspect ratio displays with thick bezels look outdated and boring. Mi A2 will come with a 6-inch bezel-less display of 18:9 aspect ratio with minimum bezels. Redmi has already launched the Redmi Note 5 with a 6-inch bezel-less display and dual camera so Mi A2 is following the trend.

The second change is in the design. Mi A1 had a horizontal camera and was inspired by the design on iPhone 7 Plus. Mi A2 features a dual camera in the vertical position and looks similar to Redmi Note 5 Pro.

On the processor side, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 will power the Mi A2 which is a good jump from the Snapdragon 625 seen on the Mi A1. Snapdragon 660 scores around 115000 on the Antutu Benchmark while Snapdragon 625 scores only half around 62000. So you can expect super smooth performance on Mi A2.

Regarding the camera, it has a dual rear camera 20+12MP f/1.75 that very well supports the bokeh shots. Redmi have specifically focussed on the low light images on this phone which sees a good improvement. For the front camera, it has a 20 MP camera with LED flash and uses an IMX376 sensor that clicks beautiful selfies. Also, Xiaomi has added an Artifical Intelligence (AI) layer to the camera that is used to recognize various objects, food etc.

Mi A2 has a battery rated at 3010 mAh and comes with Quick Charge 3.0 with USB Type C port. And like before, Mi A2 is expected to be an Android One device so you will see latest stock Android on the device. Face Unlock and fingerprint unlocking is supported on this Mi A2.

Redmi Mi A2 Price in India
Redmi Mi A2 is expected to be priced similar to Mi A1.

4 GB – 64 GB will be priced in India at Rs 14999

6 GB – 64 GB will be priced in India at Rs 16999

6 GB – 128 GB will be priced in India at Rs 18999

So, you would have to pay Rs. 14999 for the 64GB variant. We would be happy to see a 128GB Mi A2 Pro variant priced at around 17000-18000.

Redmi Mi A2 Rumors
Xiaomi is expected to launch its own chipset Xiaomi Surge S2 at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona in February, the chipset will reportedly power the upcoming Mi 6X phone which will launch as the Xiaomi Mi A2 in global markets including India.

The Surge S2 is expected to be a mid-range SoC manufactured on TSMC’s 16nm fabrication process. Surge S2 will have an Octa-core setup with four high-performance ARM Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four efficiency cores of ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz.

The chipset will have a Mali G71MP8 GPU. The Soc will also support LPDDR4 memory and the latest UFS 2.1 storage standard. The performance of the Surge S2 SoC might be at par with Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 960, which was the flagship chipset of the company in 2016.

The Surge S2 might power the Xiaomi Mi 6X which is the successor to the Mi 5X which was ultimately launched as the Mi A1 in India under the Android One program. This is why we are expecting that the Surge S2 might power the Mi A2. Source: Digit

Fresh leaks have confirmed our expectations that Mi 6X, which will be called Mi A2 in India, will have a 6-inch Full view display on the front and a dual camera setup on the back.

Update: 26th March 2018

A new image of Mi 6X/Mi A2 has leaked. As per a listing TENAA, reported by SlashLeaks, images, and specifications of a smartphone with model number M1804D2SE were showcased. Most of what we were expecting is correct. The phone will come with a 5.99 inch Full View display and a dual camera and fingerprint sensor on the back. The battery will be just 2910 mAh which is disappointing. The phone will be just 7.3 mm thick so Xiaomi has decreased the battery capacity to keep the phone slim.

Mi A2/Mi 6X launch has been confirmed for 25th April 2018. This is the China launch date. India launch might happen in May or June 2018. The chipset is expected to be Snapdragon 660 so earlier leak about chipset being SD 626 proved to be wrong. Rest all of the specs are as per expectation. The Mi A2 will be available in blue color as well. You can see the back of Mi A2 in the picture below:
