LastPass Password Manager Review

Level Up Your Security with LastPass

For beginners and non-users, Password management apps are often misunderstood. Oftentimes, people have this idea that all these apps do is store all their passwords. Some people actually think its more dangerous to put all your eggs in one basket. However, this is far from the truth, these kinds of apps are extremely useful. Today, we are here to talk about how you can level up your security with Lastpass Password Manager and how it can change your life.

What Is LastPass?

LastPass is easily the biggest name in password management. Remarkably, their free version of the app is simply the best among all competitors. Most users will find the free version more than adequate for their needs. The interface is very easy to use without overwhelming the users with options. Also, the software is intuitive and very fast across numerous supported platforms.

Having said that, they also offer a paid version of the app. For $24.00 a year, you will be able to unlock extra features that you won’t get from the free version.

As for compatibility, LastPass supports Windows Vista and above. Also included are the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and up and the most common distributions of Linux and Chrome OS.

On the other hand, the supported browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Opera and Maxthon.

On mobile devices, LastPass is available for iOS 5.1 and above. Also, for Android users, the requirements would be 2.3 and above and Windows users are Phone 7.1 and above. You can download old versions of LastPass for Blackberry, Symbian and WebOS.

More Than Just A Password Vault

Secure Notes

Aside from just storing your passwords, the app also allows you to store other important information as well.  LastPass can also store your bank account, credit card, drivers license, and passport information safely for future reference.

You can also add a profile information where you can store personal data of someone such as yourself. From telephone numbers to your Social Security Number, a complete personal data sheet is available for your convenience.

Auto-Fill

This is, by far, the best and the most useful feature of any password managers. Whether it’s the mobile or the Desktop app, the auto-fill feature will detect any text box you are currently in. Based on your stored database, the app will now offer to automatically fill the text box you are currently trying to fill.

For instance, you are trying to open your Gmail account. As soon as you type your email into the text box, it will now detect the same name registered in its database. After that, it will offer to fill the password for you with just a click of a finger. The same also applies for credit card text box, wifi login text box and whatever you saved in the database.

What separates LastPass from others is its support syncing across all of the user’s device in its free version. Whether you’re using a mobile phone or your desktop, everything is already synced as long as you’re logged in. You will no longer need to remember or even retype any other passwords ever.

Auto-Save

It is also important to recognize how intuitive LastPass is. Whenever you create a new account or fill any text box over the web, it will automatically offer you the option to save it in your vault. Thus, skipping the manual input setup in the app itself. This creates a pleasant overall internet experience in using the app.

Password Generator

LastPass also offers a password generator inside its app. A very complicated, computer generated password will be given to you for extreme security measures.

The free version of the LastPass also offers unlimited password which is something to be thankful for. With more than 80 compatible websites, you can change passwords inside the app itself with just one click.

It is also important to take note that, while LastPass stores all your passwords, it will not store or remember your master password. However, in the event that you do forget your master password, it gives you two options to recover and keep your account. First, an account recovery SMS will be sent to your registered mobile number in LastPass. Finally, the one-time recovery password for any browser on which you have previously used LastPass.

Password Sharing

Who knew sharing a password could be a feature right? Well, LastPass allows you to share passwords without the other person knowing exactly what your password is. This is a great tool for people who use LastPass for business.

For Example, you can now share your email or Netflix subscription to anyone without giving them the password. Furthermore, you can strip them the right to access these things anytime you want. For the paid version of the app, you will be able to share a single password to more than one user.

Security

Security is probably the biggest concern of every user for any password management app, and rightfully should. Saving your password and other sensitive information through the servers cloud increases the risk of your data being compromised.

However, LastPass uses AES-256-bit encryption to secure your data. This is the highest form of security right now which is virtually unhackable. The data stored with LastPass is in a readable state only on your devices because your data is encrypted and decrypted only on your device.

Furthermore, LastPass offers 2-factor Authentication as an added layer of protection. This feature is available on both free and the paid version of the app. The free options include software tools such as LastPass Authenticator and Duo Security Authentication. Also inlcuded are the Google Authenticator, Transakt Authentication and Grid Multifactor Authentication.

Premium subscribers have extra 2-factor hardware options such as Fingerprint Authentication and the Yubikey Multifactor Authentication. The fingerprint authentication feature only works on the Windows Biometric Framework. Meanwhile, the Yubikey Multifactor Authentication will only work with the presence of the Yubikey itself.

In addition, LastPass also offers LastPass portable. This program lets you install a portable Chrome or Firefox browser with the LastPass extension on a USB drive. This feature lets you use the service on a public or shared computer that doesn’t allow for the installation of the LastPass browser extension.

Lastly, the LastPass pocket. This is a stand-alone LastPass application on a USB stick compatible for windows and Linux. The pocket allows you to access your LastPass Vault even without an internet connection.

LastPass Password Manager Review

Rating 9.5/10

This app scores a whopping 9.5/10 rating. It comes with no surprise why LastPass continues to lead the industry in password management. Their free version alone is enough to please a solo user, while their paid version is relatively cheap. The app itself is very easy to use, the core functions work perfectly, and on top of everything, the security is top notch.

It checks all my boxes when it comes to password managers, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is not using it yet.
