Having a Bank account is almost mandatory these days. Especially after the demonetization, the Indian government is pressing hard to open individual bank accounts for every citizen in India.
Having a bank account is beneficial in many ways. From getting different government subsidies to make a basic financial portfolio, a bank account is a key player.
If you go to any cyber cafe it will cost you around Rs.100 to Rs.200.
In this post, I will quickly discuss how to open a bank account step by step without even going to any branch, right from the comfort of your home. It will save your money as well as your time!
For keeping the post short I have picked Axis BANK & State Bank of India as for example. If you can understand the steps you can easily open bank accounts for other banks also as the process is more or less the same.
So let’s start.
Before opening any bank account you will need the following prerequisites ready. So make sure you have them ready when applying for any new bank account.
Documents required:
- Aadhaar card
- PAN Card
- A Working Mobile phone number
In the case of Axis bank,
- Go to The Following Official website of Axis bank https://digital.axisbank.co.in/
- Enter your valid Mobile, Aadhaar & PAN number as required in the form.
- Click on Next
After that Axis Bank will fetch your Aadhar info and send you an OTP to your registered mobile number which you have just entered in the previous step.
- Then after entering the OTP, your full personal details will be displayed on the screen.
- Then, you have to fill up all the required details above.
If you wish you can also add your nominee details here as below:
Choose your residential status.
- The Review all the details you have entered in the next screen.
Next after completing all the steps above a final OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number
Next, you have to enter/set your 4 digit Debit card number and confirm.
- Click on the ‘Activate ‘ button
Finally, you are all set and your account is created just under 10 minutes.
So it is that easy!

Now as promised, let’s start the process with SBI. First, go to the official website of SBI
- https://oaa.onlinesbi.com/oao/onlineAccOpenOaoReg.htm
- Click on ‘Savings Bank Online Account Application’
- Next, Click on ‘Apply Now’
After that click on ‘start new’ under Customer Information.
Then you have to fill up the full customer information section as required
Please don/t press F5 button when filling up this form.
After filling up all the details click on proceed and you will be presented with a TCRN number(Temporary customer reference number) which is valid for 30 days since the day of application.
- Next click on ‘Save and Proceed’ and also fill the additional required details in the next step.
Also, click on ‘Branch Locator’ to get the bank data and check all the services you need!
Thereafter, you will get a TARN number(Temporary account reference number).
- Next click on’SAVE and Proceed’
Please note this TARN number will also be sent to your mobile number.
Also, fill the nomination details as required. Next click on’SAVE and Proceed’
Then finally click on ‘Submit’ to fill out your online application. Please note you can’t edit any data after the final submission. So if you want to edit some of the details please do before the final submission.
Then click on ‘OK’ and you will be presented to the home screen where you can download your completed application form.
Then finally you can print a hard copy of the submitted document and go to your branch and submit the application to open your bank account.
