In a surprise move, Xiaomi has come up with the new Redmi Y series of smartphones which include the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. This new Y series has been developed specifically for selfie lovers, keeping in mind the increasing craze for selfies, the company said at an event here in New Delhi.
At the launch event, Manu Kumar Jain, the global VP of Xiaomi and Managing Director of Xiaomi India, revealed that "the 'Y' in the new Xiaomi Redmi Y series stands for 'You', the selfie-taking buyer".
Both handsets come under budget and mid-range segment and pack enough decent specs to attract more user base.
Talking about the specifications, the main highlight of the Redmi Y1 is its 16-megapixel front camera with selfie light and options like Beautify, 36 smart beauty profiles, Video call with real-time beautify, Selfie countdown and Face recognition among others.
Other features include, a 5.5-inch HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 435, Adreno 505 graphics processor, 13-megapixel rear camera. It comes in two variants - 3GB + 32GB / 4GB + 64GB. The 3GB model is priced at Rs. 8,999, while the 4GB model at Rs. 10,999.
Redmi Y1 Lite, on the other hand, comes with the same 5.5-inch HD display, same battery, and rear camera setup. It is available in 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset. However, it comes only with a 5-megapixel front camera with no LED flash.
Redmi Y1 Lite has been priced at Rs. 6,999.
