No Phone Number Needed For Facebook’s New Two-Factor Authentication

Every big social-media platform today gives the option for two-factor Authentication. Which makes your account 2X secure with an additional layer of authentication. An OTP on the phone number is the most popular two-factor authentication method and now Facebook has removed the requirement of a phone number for two-factor authentication.

Facebook has announced its changed two-factor authentication process. Previously Facebook required a phone number to activate the two-factor authentication. Now the company is also accepting security apps like Google authenticator and Duo security.

The social media giant says it has simplified the who process and turning on two-factor authentication is now very easy. These security apps authentication is much better and OTP via SMS is not the safest option due to the recent SMS hacks we have seen.

According to a report by The Verge, this new update comes as a couple of months age Facebook admitted a bug in its Two-factor authentication process. With this bug, a non-security related SMS was sent to the user’s smartphones. And if you replied to these SMS, it would end up as a post on your wall.

So if you have not turned on the Two-Factor authentication, turn it on now by going into settings. Then go to  Security and Login – Use Two-Factor Authentication and select the preferred method.
