Should Smartphone Users Be Worried About Advancement in Spy Apps

Change in all its various kinds and forms is inevitable. When mobile phones were newly invented and launched into the market, people were sceptical about its use. Most of their scepticism stems from the fact that human beings are scared of whatever is unfamiliar or unknown to them. Once they familiarize themselves with the technology responsible for the creation of mobile phones and gauge the benefits it had to offer, they were fine with it. Eventually, the same scepticism was shown when the plain old mobile phone was upgraded to a Smartphone. People wondered if they privacy was at stake then too. Back then the only worry people had stemmed from spyware and Spy Applications that could be detected using applications meant for protection. But as the technology behind smartphones has advanced over the years, so have the notorious spy applications. Therein lies the real threat.

The Claim

Smartphone manufacturers swear up and down how safe and secure their product is, but no matter how hard smartphone companies work to ensure that their claims stand true, the minds behind the spy tech industry leave no stone unturned in their quest to infiltrate all the defences mounted by spying on the cell phone. Smartphone manufacturers have tried their hardest to make their smartphones as secure as possible. They have restricted third-party apps from being installed on the device to ensure the integrity of the device is never at stake. Additionally most smartphones in the market today have been equipped with all sorts of detectors that, as the smartphone manufacturers’ claim, are the best in the line when it comes to the protection of the device as well as its user, even those claims turn out to be nothing when the spy industry makes its play and all the defenses that the smartphone industry is so proud of goes up in smoke.

The Threat

Now that we have established the gravity of the situation, it is the time that we look into what the threat really is. Spy Apps for android manufacturer’s claim that their product was created with the intention of providing parents, spouses and business owners with a platform to keep a digital eye on the people or things they care about. In the case of parents, it is their children, for spouses and partners it is their other halves while for employers and business owners it just happens to be their employees and the office hardware being used by the employees in the workplace as well as the mobile workforce. A similar technology was and is being used by spy agencies all over the world to keep track of various targets and people of interest to know what they are up to around the clock or to keep them safe.

These individuals are the ones that use spy applications with the best interests of others and themselves in mind since they were the reason for the creation, inception, and privatization of spy applications. Yet, as this product has landed into the hands of private companies, spy app manufacturers have no other way to get their product out to the public without shelving their product in the stores and selling them off online. But, neither of those sources have the capability to ensure that the people buying their product comprise of their target audience.

When a person sells a gun he doesn’t know the one buying is a gun is a husband and a father who needs it to protect his family or a serial killer about to go on a murder spree. He is selling the gun and the one he is selling it to is the one buying it. The same is the case for the buying and selling of a spy app. The one buying it may be a mother to a 12-year-old who has just been gifted a smartphone and the mother wants to make sure that her son is safe both online and when he is out of sight. Yet, it can also be a scorned ex-girlfriend who is using it to stalk both his ex-boyfriend and the girl he is currently in a relationship with.

Even though it is spy apps that are helping out with both the scenarios, they and their advancement cannot technically be held responsible for the way people use spy applications since their manufacturers have no way to ensure that they are being used for the right reasons once they have been sold.
