You’ve Seen Tons of E-bikes, but Have You Seen an Electric Trike?

Remember when you were a little kid and you got your first tricycle?

Nobody else could ride it because it was just your size. It had a bell and tassels and it was your favorite color. It made you feel special because it was yours. It represented your first taste of freedom.

Time passed and your three wheels became two. But that nostalgic feeling of traversing the sidewalk on your three-wheeler stayed with you.

Pedego E-bikes Brings You the Electric Trike

Thanks to the folks at Pedego—the number one brand of electric bikes in America—you can now feel like a big kid on the Pedego Trike, their version of the electric adult tricycle.

And, just like when you were a kid, safety is a big reason why three wheels are better than two.

The Pedego Trike comes with a rear cargo hull which will make errands feel less errand-y. If you’re using the Pedego Trike rear cargo hull to haul around goods, you don’t want your bike to tip over on the way home from the grocery store—or the liquor store… especially the liquor store. Three wheels add a level of stability you just can’t find on a standard bicycle.

Add front and rear lights, front and rear disc brakes, three big fat Schwalbe tires and a backrest on the seat and you have a comfortable and safe ride good enough for an outing with you and your canine best buddy.

The design allows for easy mounting (that’s what she said) and the Pedego Trike handlebars are made for folks between five and six feet tall. So, my grandmother and Shaquille O’Neal are out of luck, but it’s perfect for the rest of us.

Let’s not forget the Pedego Trike is an electric bike, which means we only pedal when we want to pedal.

Let’s Take a Look at the Numbers

Let’s check out some of the Pedego Trike stats.

  • Three levels of pedal assist mode for a more natural riding experience.
  • Internally geared hub for easy pedaling and smooth shifting – even at a complete stop.
  • State-of-the-art geared motor delivers best in class acceleration and hill climbing.
  • Twist-and-go throttle for full power on demand.

And then there’s the battery.

  • Convenient battery placement for easy access and charging.
  • Lightweight, long lasting lithium battery with an industry-leading two-year limited warranty

The Pedego Trike battery’s charge will last for 20 miles, even longer if you use some leg power. Charging the battery will only cost you a shiny quarter, which will leave more money for the trips to the liquor store. Pedaling will not charge the battery, but it may help lower your cholesterol.

You can expect to go up to 10 mph on your Pedego Trike. That may seem slow to 2017 Tour De France winner, Chris Froome, but it’s plenty fast for the rest of us. After all, you don’t want man’s best friend terrified in his cargo hull.

The Pedego Trike is only available in Mineral Blue, which is a color I don’t remember from my Crayola box of 64 crayons, but it sure is pretty.

Pedego Trike Pricing

The cost of the Pedego Trike is $2,995.00. Unlike other electric bikes, there are no add-ons or special features to purchase so the price you see is the price you’ll get.

Shipping is $175 but you can pick it up for free in Fountain Valley, California. Of course, local pick-up is only a good idea if you are near Fountain Valley, CA. If you live in Boston and decide to fly to Fountain Valley, CA, pick up your Pedego Trike then ride it back to Beantown, you’ll have to travel 3000 miles.

Assuming you don’t pedal once during the cross-country trip, you’ll have to charge your battery 150 times. While the actual cost of charging your Pedego Trike may be $37.50, you’ll have to factor in food and lodging for a 3000-mile trip at 10 mph.

Save yourself a lot of money and just pay the shipping costs.

Oh, and don’t forget that pesky California sales tax. That will set you back another $239.60. At checkout it says, “Note: Shipping and taxes are estimated and will be updated during checkout based on your billing and shipping information.” Better start shining up your quarters. You’re gonna need them.
