Life Of Solar Plant Is Long Or Short?

Wondering what is the lifespan of your solar plant? We just got you covered!

There is one question that always comes complimentary to the installation of Solar Plant i.e. ‘How long will my solar plant last?’

Well, it’s a valid question to ask.

After all, the installation of the solar plant is an expensive upfront investment and one would want to be sure that he is getting his money’s worth. Moreover, it is not just about pollution or greenhouse emission; it’s also about the bottom line that will this investment last long. If yes, are there any maintenance costs related to it.

So, without budging the question ‘How long will my solar plant last?’ Let’s jump over it.

According to the industry testing and thumb rule, the solar plant will last for 25-30 years.  But wait…..this doesn’t mean that after 25-30 years it will stop producing energy-it simply means that the energy production or efficiency of the solar panel will start declining at a negligible rate.

Now, this leads to another question that at what rate will the efficiency decline?

Although different manufacturers offer different warranties regarding the lifespan and efficiency, a good manufacturer and a good solar panel will decline at an approx rate of 0.8% per year. In simple words, in the 25th year, your solar plant will work at 80% rate and in the 26th year, it will work at 79.2% and so on. This clearly shows that there is the minute marginal fall which is almost negligible. Therefore, it would be completely safe to say that purchasing solar plant is a lifetime investment. It doesn’t degrade that easily.

But, hello, did you know that you can reduce the degradation rate also?

Though, solar plants don’t really require heavy maintenance. But there are some small simple steps that can help you use your solar plant at full capacity, like cleaning the solar panels. By just keeping it away from dust, sand, pollen and dirt you can stop it from degradation. In cities where there is pollution, smog also tends to settle on the panel. Hence, it is supposed to be protected from smog also. Secondly, many times, the limbs of trees tend to block the sunlight at the roof. Any sort of shade on the solar panel leads to premature failure. Therefore, make sure that no shade falls on the panel.

And the last and the most important tip is that one should ALWAYS choose a good manufacturer having a good reputation in the industry for selling the best home solar system and good materials. Because if the manufacturer will sell the home solar system of good quality, the chance of its longevity will automatically increase.

Therefore, it would be totally apt to say at the end that the lifespan of a solar plant is 25-30 years.  And it would degrade negligibly after that.
