Artificial Intelligence: Forget Terror, Robots Could Be Trump’s Greatest Threat

Today in the United States it’s pretty evident that the rise of Automation will get some workers off the job. This rise of artificial intelligence could cause some issues with Donald Trump’s efforts to create new jobs in the nation.

Ever since Donald Trump resumed office, he’s been more focused on issues with terrorists as well as nations linked to terror attacks. Speaking of terrorists, the president happened to blame migrants for the false terror attack in Sweden.

False? Well, the event has since been ruled as a hoax because both the media as well as Sweden’s security have struggled to name any particular incident that took place.

Science fiction?

That aside, let’s face the robots. Several studies have forecasted a day when labor-intensive, as well as repetitive jobs, will be replaced by automation. However, we’re still on the lookout to see whether humans occupying these positions will be promoted to a better position or will be completely replaced by the robots.

According to consultancy McKinsey, Up to 49% of worker activities can be handed over to some machine or robot increasingly assisted by Artificial Intelligence software. Moreover, according to a survey conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, about 58% of CEOs plan to cut jobs over the next five years because of robotics.

These studies and surveys indicate how robots are perhaps the greatest threat to Donald Trump’s administration.

Speaking of artificial intelligence, one particular technology to be considered are self-driving cars. Self-driving cars are coming out fast and are set to emerge en masse in 2021 as most car manufacturers will offer these features in their numbers.

Moreover, a partnership has being formed between Lyft and GM to roll out fleets of self-driving cars on-demand. Also, Uber and Mercedes have forged a partnership with a similar offering. Uber also acquired Otto (a company which automates large trucks). This move is sure to profound effects on speed, safety as well as the shortage of truck drivers.

So what is the implication of Self-driving cars?

Well, it’s pretty obvious that a significant segment of American workers are professional drivers which imply that most of them will soon find themselves in an awkward position of not knowing whether they have a career, job or source of income.

This alone will leave the current Trump administration with a challenge of deciding how to respond. The Trump administration has promised to increase and keep jobs on American soil and promote products made in the nation.

However, Donald Trump has not uttered a word on the topic of automation, and some people believe that automation supported by artificial intelligence could undermine his core position.

The scary part!

If you happen to get around a lot, you’ll have come across an automated barista in coffee shops. There are also automated restaurants. Moreover, a company known as Starship Technologies use artificial intelligence to ship food to people’s homes and offices.

The list goes on and on as many other companies including Mercedes, Google, Amazon, GE is rapidly advancing in robotics.

There’s no doubt that as bots and AI continue to rise, we will witness the impact, it will have on lower-level as well as middle-level white collar workers. They will either be supported or replaced by automation.

A perfect example of this is Walmart, which recently laid off about 7,000 of its employees in the white-collar billing department and replacing them with back-office automation technologies.

There are two likely ways Donald Trump’s Administration will respond to automation:

• Place Limitations On Automation: The current administration may opt to limit the amount of automation that can be deployed by top Artificial Intelligence companies thereby keeping the jobs of American workers.

OR

• Give Full Support To Automation: Yes, the administration might choose to welcome automation with open arms as it tends to benefit the company performance, improve the nation’s GDP and taxes. The implication of this is that laid-off workers who are unable to improve their skills will be left in the cold.

Conclusion

Well, so far we have seen how robotics can be a significant threat to the President’s administration. We the citizens continue to keep our fingers crossed for the great future the nation holds for us.
