Google launches scholarships for 10,000 Android developers

Google has partnered with Bertelsmann and has launched a digital program in the European Union which aims at offering 10,000 Android developer scholarships. Google has not only joined hands with Bertelsmann but has also shook hands with Udacity (an e-learning platform) to launch this amazing initiative. The idea behind this digital program is to control the shortage of digital skills across Europe and train more and more people as digital developers.

Google launches scholarships in EU

Google Vice President, Matt Brittin said:

“More than half of the population in Europe utilizes their smartphones to access the web and these stats are only increasing.”

He further added:

“This digital program brings in a great opportunity for the Europeans, who are ambitious, to join in the 1.3 million developers (or even more), to benefit the mobile economy largely.”

Thus, this program is not only bringing in an opportunity for the ambitious Europeans to prove themselves but it is also supporting and raising the mobile economy higher.

“We wish and plan to help and that is the core reason why we are funding 10,000 Android developer scholarships across the European Union with Udacity and Bertelsmann.”

How it all works

Google has explained this program in their official blog post by saying that 9,000 out of 10,000 seats will be occupied by the people who are not that skilled and have less experience. They are then going to offer those 9,000 people a three month course of Android basics. They will learn the basics and techniques of building an Android app. The top thousand performers will receive an extra three month training. The 1,000 seats that will be left are going to be given off to people who have at least one year experience with Java programming.

While all of this will be going on, Bertelsmann will enhance the skill building and training budgets for the entire staff. Almost 1,000 Business Companies’ strive at improving their IT training, and Google along with Udacity and Bertelsmann, is also focusing on it. Well, that is definitely a lot of work that Google is up to this year. The scholarships are a great opportunity to get hold of by the Europeans and they should really not miss out on these.

How to apply

If you are interested in applying, then you can head over to the website of Udacity and peek into the details and apply for the scholarship. You must be 18 or above. People below that age limit will not be entertained for scholarships. The deadline for applying is December 18, 2016. The applicants who will be selected will get to know the details by January 5, 2016.
