At MWC in Barcelona, Gionee today unveiled its new “A series” with the introduction of two new flagship smartphones – A1 and A1 Plus. The A series will primarily focus on consumers looking for a selfie-centric phone with a longer battery life. Top of the duo is the Gionee A1 Plus featuring a 20 MP selfie camera. The A1 is said to be available in March and A1 Plus later in April. Let’s cover and compare rest of the aspects:

The A1 is a smaller and low-spec’d variant with a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display as compared to the A1 Plus that boasts a big 6-inch FHD display. The A1 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 chipset whereas the A1 Plus houses a Helio P25 processor. Both the phones run on Android 7.0 Nougat and have 4GB RAM with 64GB of storage that is expandable. Gionee has kept the 3.5mm jack intact and powered the duo with Waves MaxxAudio. The A1 and A1 Plus are equipped with 4010mAh and 4550mAh battery respectively. A1 Plus is a notch higher with a new 18W ultrafast charging system that Gionee claims can fully charge the device in 2 hours. The fingerprint sensor module is integrated on the front on both the devices.

Talking of the cameras, the A1 packs a 20MP front camera for selfies combined with a 13MP+5MP dual camera setup on the back. However, the younger sibling A1 sports a 16MP front shooter along with a 13MP rear camera. The front cameras on both the A1 & A1 Plus have a fixed focus, f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens and selfie flash. Unlike A1, the main camera flash on A1 Plus integrates an IR remote.

In terms of dimensions, the A1 measures 154.5 x 76.5 x 8.5mm with 182g of weight whereas the A1 Plus measures 166.4 x 83.3 x 9.1mm and weighs 226g. The A1 Plus comes in Gray, Mocha Gold and the A1 comes in Gray, Black and Gold colors. The A1 and A1 Plus are priced at EUR 349 and EUR 499 respectively.
