New Game Releases: May 25th-31st, 2017

Once Capcom was a power player in the industry, creating beloved franchises like Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Monster Hunter. These days the publisher seems to habitually stumble, whether it’s a glaring misspelling on the side of the Resident Evil: Revelations box, Street Fighter V’s regrettable launch, or almost everything about Umbrella Corps. This week, Capcom is dangling a forty-dollar iteration of 1994’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo, hoping that giddy Switch owners will pay the premium, reversing their fortunes.

Robert’s Pick: Yes, NEKOPARA Vol. 3 visual treats are absolutely purr-fect, earning an obligatory playthrough this week, but it’s the third iteration of Xrd that I’ll be clawing for. For veterans, there’s two new characters and six years’ worth of tuning, while the title offers one of the best tutorials around for newcomers. Don’t get me wrong, Super Street Fighter II Turbo offers an enticing rendezvous but it’s no match for the visual spectacle and sophistication of Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2.
