Forward’s Movement

This drill is aimed at developing a forward’s Movement. There are three demonstrable examples to work on which can produce dynamic attacks for your team: movement with the Ball, movement against the ball and offside to onside. Movement with the Ball
  • Form a back four of defenders using mannequins just outside the 18-yard box as shown above
  • Position two players adjacent to the defenders with a third player who will serve as the striker in the gap between the players and the defending mannequins
  • The two players pass the ball back and forth between themselves
  • The striker then moves in the same direction as the ball when a pass is made with the intention that player and ball will meet each other in behind the mannequins
Movement Against the Ball
  • Set up the session exactly the same as previously displayed or with slight variations depending on preference or intention
  • The two players pass the ball back and forth between one another again
  • This time, the striker will move in the opposite direction of the ball
  • The intention remains the same in that player and ball will meet one another in behind the mannequins but is designed to catch defenders off guard as opposed to traditionally moving in the same direction as the ball
Offside to Onside
  • Drill is set up exactly the same as previously displayed or with slight variations depending on preference or intention
  • The two players pass the ball back and forth between themselves again
  • The striker lingers a couple of yards behind the mannequins while the passes are being conducted
  • The striker will then step onside and run in behind the mannequins to meet the ball
The intention is that player and ball with meet one another but done under the guise of inattentive defenders who the striker can deceive and manipulate.
