Despite late comeback, Explorers fall to FDU in extras

La Salle scored a pair of runs in the ninth to force extras, but Fairleigh Dickinson manufactured a game-winner in the 13th to top the Explorers on Thursday at MCU Park in Brooklyn, 9-8.

The Explorers were trailing 8-2 after seven innings before mounting a comeback.

Connor Hinchliffe hit his second home run of the season to pull La Salle within a run in the ninth, and then with two outs, sophomore Dylan Evans was hit by pitch, stole second and eventually scored the game-tying run on a throwing error.

Hinchliffe started the contest on the mound for La Salle, surrendering four runs (one earned) on four hits over four innings of work. He struck out four and walked just one.

C.J. Pruit tossed a strong 5 1/3 innings in relief, though he was saddled with the loss. He struck out four and surrendered just one run on three hits, though the one run was the game-winner.

The Explorers left the bases loaded in the eight and 10th innings. Adam Frank won it for the Knights in the 13th on a one-out RBI single down the left field line off Pruit.

At the plate, Austin Constantini finished 3-for-7 with a pair of RBIs for the Explorers. Ben Faso chipped in with a pair of hits and two walks while Hinchliffe homered, scored three runs, and worked four walks on the afternoon.

The Explorers open the home portion of their schedule on Friday with a contest against Manhattan.
