Perkins makes his debut in starting lineup; Phillies introduce Haseley

Cameron Perkins will make his first major league start tonight in left field as the Phillies host the Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park.

Perkins, 26, hit .298 at triple-A Lehigh Valley through 63 games and made his major league debut last night as a pinch-hitter. With Howie Kendrick handling duties at second base for the foreseeable future, Perkins has a legitimate chance to play everyday and show what he can do against major league pitching. For his career, he's a .283 hitter in the minor leagues.

The Phillies selected Perkins in the sixth round of the 2012 draft.

Tonight's Lineup
1. Cameron Perkins, LF
2. Howie Kendrick, 2B
3. Aaron Altherr, RF
4. Tommy Joseph, 1B
5. Maikel Franco, 3B
6. Odubel Herrera, CF
7. Freddy Galvis, SS
8. Andrew Knapp, C
9. Nick Pivetta, SP

Haseley Introduction
First-round selection Adam Haseley was at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, meeting with members of the organization and the media. He also took some swings during batting practice before rain cut the things short.

"I'm just going to continue to do what I've done this spring and continue to improve on the things I've learned," Haseley said. "From there, I'll bury my head and see what happens."

Asked about expectations,  Johnny Almaraz believes the Phillies have a legitimate bat that can hit in the middle of the lineup in the not too distant future.

"He's a very dynamic player and an exciting outfielder," said Almaraz, the Phillies' Director of Amateur Scouting. "He can play all three positions and I believe offensively he'll hit anywhere from 20 to 25 homers. He'll be somebody that's going to hit in the middle of the order. He commands the strike zone and is a baseball player with true knowledge of the zone."

Almaraz said Haseley will travel to Clearwater for some workouts and be assigned to a minor league affiliate shortly thereafter.

"Clearwater would be cool because I live near Orlando," Haseley said. "But I'm fine with anywhere, just glad to be here."
