SPL Power Rankings, Week 19: Al Nassr Announce Their Intentions To Fight Till The End

1 Ho-hum, four goals – and a shutout against a team that can’t seem to get one. Bet against them at your peril. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Won against Al Khaleej 4-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ittihad (5/3) 2 Systematically neutralised their greatest threat – Omar Al Somah. Credit to the entire team for their opportunism, and credit to Carteron for preaching aggressive football against a solid team even when on the road. Al Nassr have a lot of ways to beat you, and that’s just what they want to do. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Won at Al Ahli 2-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Faisaly (3/3) 3 Another solid defensive effort and another few opportunistic goal mainly in credit to the opposing GK Mansour Jawhar. Another example of a team that is doing everything it can to catch up with Al Hilal but a little too late? LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Won at Al Shabab 2-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Hilal (5/3) 4 Must be disappointed to walk away with only a point given the few missed 1v1 situations. Yet the beauty of the game displayed in full fashion where a team destroys a giant and then falls to a minnow. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Draw against Al Batin 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Taawon (4/3) 5 A road point is almost always a good result. Hard to have too much faith, however, in a team that’s averaging less than a goal per game. Al Raed need more firepower ASAP. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Draw at Al Faisaly 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ettifaq (2/3) 6 You know it could only go two ways for Al Ahli if they conceded one early on. They would either go gung-ho on attack and destroy the team OR leave their defence wide open for their opponents to exploit easily. The latter happened. The soft red card did not help either. That’s two loss’ in a row – the beginning of their life in a realistic Saudi League world? LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Lost against Al Nassr 0-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Khaleej (4/3) 7 Got a Best XI performance from the entire squad and just a little bit of help from the assistant ref. They’ll need much more of both as the jam packed schedule arrives. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Won at Al Fareh 2-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Qadasiyah (4/3) 8 We focused on Mohamed Benyettou last week. Well, it’s the same person this week. Missed a penalty and at least one opportunity a striker should finish. Could have brought them back into the game but did not. If Sami remains with the club next season, his number one priority would be to get a proper number 9. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Lost against Al Ittihad 0-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Fateh (4/3) 9 Ended a three game winless skid for the much needed three points as they continue to fight for survival. But we did jinx GK Abdullah Al Araaf as he showed a few signs of not being comfortable on those 50/50 aerial balls. And specifically that which led to the goal. A human error but we still like his chances. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won against Al Ettifaq 2-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Batin (3/3) 10 Cannot blame anyone else but themselves for dropping points against Al Raed. Had countless open opportunities at goal but lacked the finishing touch which is why their current position in the table makes sense. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Raed 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Nassr (3/3) 11 Tailored through to the finish but shouldn’t had to. Had shots at goal but like their compatriots across the league, failed to convert. We will figure out a conversion percentage soon. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Taawon 0-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Shabab (4/3) 12 The light of the Ettifaq squad from earlier in the season has begun to flicker with the thought that it would die sometime soon. Now the key is to maintain that position in the table so as to earn some extra cash from the Saudi Pro League. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Wehda  1-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Raed (2/3) 13 Safe to say that Al Batin’s Gk Mazyad Al Enazi strongly assisted them in making sure that they went home with a point. However, could have closed the game with multiple 1v1 situations.  LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Qadasiyah 1-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Wehda (3/3) 14 If we had to sum their night up, the defence was horrendous. You can’t defend like that against a team like Al Hilal and expect result to go in your favour. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Hilal 0-4 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ahli (4/3)
