SPL Power Rankings, Week 14: Ittihad Hold No. 1 Spot As Big Four Continue To Thrive

1 Five out of five. They are playing beautiful football at the moment – their fans love it and so do we. However, only three shut-outs in fourteen games. That should be a little concerning. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 3 Latest result: Won against Al Raed 3-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Khaleej (1/1) 2 Played a man down for ~ 70 minutes and still managed to consistently attack Batin’s goal and score two like the top team they are. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Won at Al Batin 2-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Taawon (31/12) 3 Back on a four game winning streak. Now we just wonder a life without Omar Al Somah for Al Ahli. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Won against Al Ettifaq 4-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Fateh (31/12) 4 Eight points from a possible 15 in their last five games. It’s ugly, but for Al Nassr things are still looking good enough. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Won at Al Fateh 2-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ettifaq (1/1) 5 They are slowly creeping up to Ettifaq and Shabab to rightfully steal the 5th position dear to many in the league. Lax defending from Wehda gifted them all three. Otherwise, pretty lacklustre in terms of skills and entertainment. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Won against Al Wehda 3-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Hilal (31/12) 6 Four draws in five games. Are comfortable based on where they stand in the table but just like season, the big four are slowly slipping away from their grasp. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Draw at Al Qadasiyah 1-1 Next SPL match: Away against Al Batin (30/12) 7 Helio dos Anjos was visibly upset and it was clear why he was. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Draw against Al Shabab 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Faisaly (29/12) 8 Ettifaq looked like the better team until the equalizer against Ahli. They have some pieces and an identity, but questions remain about their Mentality to withstand pressure across the pitch. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Ahli 1-4 Next SPL match: Away at Al Nassr (1/1) 9 Paid for their mistakes. Lack of finishing on open chances that normally has a 90+% chances of conversion hurt them. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Draw against Al Faisaly 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ittihad (1/1) 10 Just couldn’t generate any sort of reliable offense from the run of play especially when they had the Ittihad on gung-ho mentality leaving their defence vulnerable. The problem is their propensity to give away late goals on a weekly basis. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost at Al Ittihad 2-3 Next SPL match: Away at Al Wehda (30/12) 11 Don’t think they had even a single shot on goal. Understandable given that they were playing like a team that would be a man down. Wait, they were a man up. However, props to the acrobatics of GK Mazyad Al Enazi who kept them in the game. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Hilal 0-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Shabab (30/12) 12 Seems like Al Khaleej’s lack of finishing boosted their attacking mentality leading to the equalizer. Ended a three game losing streak which is a good thing right? LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Khaleej 1-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Qadasiyah (29/12) 13 Stunned the Nasrawi’s for as long as 53 minutes. Then the lions woke up and charged back to a victory handing Fateh their third consecutive loss. LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Nassr 1-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ahli (31/12) 14 This LOSS was all on them. Weak defending from the back four led to the three goals. Should not have happened at top flight. Also had the opportunity to score 3 or 4 from set-pieces but were fortunate to get one. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Taawon 1-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Raed (30/12)
