Fonehouse predicts how Arsenal’s players will fare at the World Cup

(this post is brought to you in conjunction with our sponsor www.fonehouse.co.uk)

With less than a week to go, excitement has reached fever pitch. The quadrennial World Cup is upon us and several of our Gunners will be taking part. We rate the chances of each of our players in the tournament and also estimate the amount of mobile data you will need to watch your heroes, thanks to research conducted by Fonehouse.

Danny Welbeck (England):

The much maligned winger managed to make the cut in Gareth Southgate’s squad. We all know his limitations but he can be fantastic impact player when coming off the bench, which I suspect is how he will be used. Then again, with his goal against Costa Rica in the most recent friendly, he may well start. If England do as they always do and get knocked out in the round of 16, you’d need 1.8 GB of data to stream all their matches according to Fonehouse.

Joel Campbell (Costa Rica)

Remember him? He’s still an Arsenal player! Immensely talented particularly on the wing he will be one of the driving forces behind Los Ticos’ attacking threat, as they look to emulate their success from 2014. He also has a point to prove as he looks to return to the Arsenal first team. Whenever he was called upon he impressed but for some reason Wenger still sent him out on loan. Hopefully Emery has more faith in him this time around. Being in a tough group Fonehouse Predicts you’d only need 1.3GB of mobile data if you were to follow Joel Campbell.

David Ospina (Colombia)

Our number 2 between the sticks will be taking to the field for his native Colombia in Russia. Like many others in the Arsenal squad he seems to prosper in the big stage whereas under Wenger he seemed a shadow of himself. Another one with a point to prove as Emery looks to establish who will be his number 1 goalkeeper. With Colombia in a relatively easy group Fonehouse predicts there’ll be at least 1.8GB of data consumed to follow Ospina.

Mohamed Elneny (Egypt)

All the talk around Egypt is for Salah but there’s also our fellow Gunner Elneny who will be representing Egypt at the World Cup. His role in the Egypt team will be one where he can come into his own, he will be one of the main men, and not have to compete with the Arsenal midfield. Hopefully this will give him the chance to shine and with a new manager at the fore, he will be able to observe his strengths and utilise them when he returns from the World Cup. Egypt will find it tough to exit the group against the hosts and Uruguay so Fonehouse predicts only 1.3GB of data will be needed to follow Elneny.

Alex Iwobi (Nigeria)

The young Nigerian has made the 23 man squad for the World Cup. Much has been hyped about the Nigerian campaign so far, much to do with their fantastic jersey which sold out in minutes! Iwobi is another who shines on the international stage, not many can say they have a hat trick against Argentina! If he can reproduce that they’ll surely qualify but it will be tough, and as such Fonehouse predicts only 1.3GB of data will be required to follow Iwobi.

Nacho Monreal (Spain)

Nacho in back in the Spain squad. One of the more controversial selections ahead of Marcos Alonso. To be fair though he’s had a great season for us and deserves his place, especially with a Spain side who are somewhat in transition after their glory period earlier this decade. Spain are expected to go deep into the tournament so expect to use plenty of data, well over 2GB to follow Monreal according to Fonehouse.

Granit Xhaka (Switzerland)

One of two Swiss players to come from Arsenal, he will be looking to make serious amends after a less than impressive season. Without the burden of Wenger not allowing him to shoot from range, watch out for some of those long-range goals and long passes we love. In a group with Brazil however it will be difficult, Fonehouse predicts around 1.8GB of data to stream all of Xhaka’s games.

Stephan Lichtsteiner (Switzerland)

While he hasn’t played a game for us yet he is officially a Gunner as of a few days ago. A seasoned veteran, he will most likely captain the Swiss side and will be staking his claim for a place ahead of Bellerin at right back at season’s start. Like Xhaka before him it’ll take about 1.8GB of mobile data to watch Lichtsteiner according to Fonehouse.

Mesut Ozil

Dare I say leaving the best for last? The multiple German player of the year winner is out to defend his World Cup title. He suffered a back injury against Austria and is in doubt for the opening fixture. Let’s hope that he has a speedy recovery. Fonehouse like most people are tipping Germany to go deep into the tournament. If you want to follow Ozil you’re looking at streaming at least 3GB of data.
