The State of San Diego State Football

The San Diego State Aztecs were 6-0 and ranked #19 going into Saturday's contest against Boise State.
They exited with a record of 6-1 and out of the AP Top 25.
This was their first loss of the season, but this is not the only number to recognize. The Aztecs announced at SDCCU stadium on Saturday night that the attendance was 49,053.
The parking lots were all full.
Marshall Faulk was signing autographs in the Aztec Village.
The line to get into the stadium was a mile long with a line of red.
Once you entered the stadium, you could hear the fans already screaming from their seats with their red pom-poms.
Once the announcer started the "I believe that we will win" chant, all the fans were jumping up and down, and you could not even hear your own voice.
You may then ask why was there so much energy at SDCCU Stadium on Saturday night? Well, that is because real football was back in San Diego.
No NFL team losing every week, and no empty seats at SDSU games.
The "One City. One Team" slogan that appears on billboards across San Diego and seen on social media actually was the perfect description of San Diego on Saturday.
The "too large" stadium was filled even to the upper bowls of the ex-NFL stadium, and it felt like this was a legit football team.
This crowd was bigger than any Los Angeles Chargers game this year.
But us San Diego fans do not even care at all about that because we are one city with one team, and that is the Aztecs.
Now it seems like the result of this game was going to be a blowout Aztec victory to keep the undefeated record alive, and to climb up the rankings, but that was not the case.
Even with the electric crowd, that was not enough to silence the Boise State offense and defense.
If you ask any Aztec fan that attended the game what was the worst offensive play of the night, they will probably go to the play where Christian Chapman was about to get sacked, and then he was tried to flip it to Juan Washington, but ended up throwing it over his head, and the Broncos defense picked it up and jogged into the end zone.
It was a sloppy game all around for the Aztecs. They did not look like a ranked team at all.
Some highlights were an 89-yard touchdown pass from Christian Chapman to Fred Trevillion and a Rashaad Penny touchdown in the third quarter where he ran to the left and walked into the end zone.
The good news about the Aztecs' ranking, they led all schools in the category of "other receiving votes" with 56. So, with that statistic, with a win this coming Saturday and a loss of ranked university, the Aztecs could very well be right back in the Top 25.
The Aztecs will get a chance to redeem themselves at Homecoming on Saturday night against Fresno State.
Even though the result was not up to par with the excitement around the stadium on Saturday night, it was still a night to remember.
