Penguins take control of Metro after 6-1 victory against Carolina

The Pittsburgh Penguins have taken control of the Metropolitan Division once again after a 6-1 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes last night.

Jake Guentzel opened up scoring for the Penguins late in the first period with an assist from the brother of USA Women’s Hockey Olympic Gold Medalist Amanda Kessel.

The Penguins’ Kessel went on to score twice in the second period within two minutes, proving that there must be something in that Wisconsin water that makes good hockey players.

Olli Maatta also scored before early in the second before the Kessel show started.

In the third, the two-headed monester reared its head, with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin both scoring to make the seventh and sixth goals for the Penguins.

The lone Carolina goal came from Teuvo Teravainen in the second period, but it wasn’t nearly enough to stop the Penguins.

Matt Murray made 27 saves for Pittsburgh, helping them win the 11th out of 13 games and taking back the first place in the Metropolitan Division from the Washington Capitals.

The last time the Penguins played Carolina on Jan. 4, they were shut out. Since then, they are 16-3-1.

This streak they have going and the trades they are making off the ice are all pointing in one direction: the threepeat.

The Penguins face off against the Florida Panthers tonight at 7 p.m.
