Check the skies this weekend

Those wishing to take in a little more from the two-day Wings Over North Georgia Air Show, which starts Saturday, can turn their eyes toward the sky at noon Friday for a full rehearsal that will include the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels. The air show kicks off another year at 9 a.m. Saturday — this is also the start time Sunday — and over 75,000 are expected to attend during the course of the event at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport in Armuchee. Opening ceremonies both days begin at 11:15 a.m., with aerial performances and ground demonstrations running from noon to 4 p.m. Gates close at 5 p.m. each day. Before the Blue Angels take to the skies each day at 3 p.m., the Parade of Veterans will be held at 2:15 p.m. to honor all members of the Armed Forces. Participants will come together at the north ramp of the airport 15 minutes before the start of the parade. Also included in the aerial performances are U.S. National Aerobatic Champion Rob Holland, who will give a solo show, and U.S. SOCOM Para-Commandos will complete free-fall parachute demonstrations.
