Thunderbirds, Blue Angels in the same sky after 15 years

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) — The last time the United State Air Force Thunderbirds were out at NAS Pensacola with the Blue Angels was 15 years ago. In fact, according to Department of Defense regulations, the two flight demonstration teams cannot perform within a certain distance of one another, so people are really excited for the chance to see both teams practice in one day. “When we found out the Thunderbirds are sitting backseat to the Blue Angels in their planes, and later today they’re going to switch it, and put the Blue Angels in the backseats of the Thunderbirds, that’s pretty neat,” said Carl Weaver. “It’s a unique time, a unique experience to have them here for our visitors to be able to see two of the premier flight demonstrations teams in the world perform in the skies over NAS Pensacola,” said Hill Goodspeed.” Although the flight line was closed Tuesday morning, about 200 people still showed up to watch the Blues practice at 9 a.m. The flight line will open at 12:30 p.m. The Thunderbirds are expected to take to the sky at 1:30 p.m.
