Mexico Grabbed Hard Fought Win Over New Zealand

Mexico finally picked up their first win in this year’s Confederations Cup tournament as they defeated New Zealand 2-1 on Wednesday.

Despite grabbing maximum points, it was far from an easy match for El Tri as they found themselves struggling during the first 45 minutes.

Being a superior team on paper, the Concacaf champion did made several changes compared to their first game against Portugal.

Those changes didn’t seem to be working well, notably during the first period as Mexico found themselves trailing by one goal just before half time break through Chris Wood’s effort.

Having to chase the game seemingly pumped up Juan Carlos Osorio’s men as they put out a much better performance after the break.

Mexico eventually managed to draw level on 54 minutes through Raul Jimenez, before Oribe Peralta made it 2-1 on 72 minutes.

That second goal from Osorio’s team proved crucial as it was the game decider since neither teams were able to score more goals afterwards.

It was a hard Fought Win indeed for the Concacaf side, but still an important result that puts their chance in advancing into the knock out stage of Confederation Cup alive and well.

Mexico will be meeting host nation, Russia on their final group fixture, a deciding game indeed knowing the winner will certainly makes it into the next round.
