Russia Started Confederations Cup With a Comfortable Win

Russian national team started off their first tournament test in Confederations Cup in a positive fashion as they defeated New Zealand 2-0.

The upcoming World Cup 2018 host were determined to showcase their footballing quality aside from their ability in becoming a successful host nation.

Having more quality compared to their opponent, the home team naturally dominated proceedings since kick off.

Their dominance was finally rewarded on 31 minutes as a swift attacking play resulted in an own goal from Michael Boxall.

That slender lead lasted until half time break as neither teams were able to score more goal during that first 45 minutes.

After the break, Stanislav Cherchesov’s team continue their aggressive display as they were gunning for more goals.

Russia’s effort didn’t go fruitless as they eventually able to snatch their second in the game, this time through Fedor Smolov’s strike.

Despite both teams relentless attempt in the remaining minutes, neither were able to add more goals as that game ended in a comfortable 2-0 victory for the home team.

It’s certainly a positive sign for Cherchesov’s boys as they so far can provide positive entertainment for their home crowd fans, despite facing a relatively weaker opponent.
